Does anyone know about how much it would cost to get the engine in my 95 gst fully rebuilt?

I'd say somewhere around $1500 for a middle of the road head build (with parts, portwork, etc.), and I'd guess around the same for a bottom end build (parts, balance, assy, etc.). So, my guess would be about $3000 should do you right, but it all depends on where you go and what you get. :shrug

yea thats what i figured. i just want a rebuild to bring me back to 0 miles so i can get a few more years out of my eclipse.

Does it run bad or have any problems? I dont see a point in rebuilding if it is not needed.

My rebuild is going to be right about 2200.00 and that is everything new including head and shortblock, but I am doing the assembly.

The engine is running pretty good. No noticable problems. I was just wondering cause it is only a matter of time before something goes and i just want to make sure i have the money.

If the engine runs good why bother?

Do a compression check and post numbers, if you can't do it find a friend who can..

Since you have a 2G i think compression from the factory should be about 175psi on each cylinder, give or take a few psi... Service Limit is probably around 130psi, anything under that depending on how bad & what your doing with the car will determine what needs to be done.

What do you mena its only a matter of time? If it runs well and doesnt have problems then why would it just take a shit? It is possible that it might, but you cant be paranoid that everyday it will crap on you. If you are really worried about it them slowly buy some parts for a spare motor and piece it together.

If you are really set on waisting a couple grand them by all means, but I see no need to waste money.

no im not paranoid about it. i just want to make sure that eventually when it does go i want to have the money thats all. im not going to rebuild the engine if there is no reason to do so.

I think it depends on how bad your motor is. My little bro's 97GSX is in the shop for motor and lower block repair. He replaced head gaskets once and didn't do a good jod retiming. Motor sounds terrible, shop notice problem just by hearing the car driving in.
Total rebuilt cost him little more then $5K. Used motor runs $1200-2500 + labor cost $$$$$=$3000-4000 Total. Shop said use motors are not garrenty to last long, since they don't know the how well it was takin care of in the past.
