I just installed a wally 190 into my 97 awd talon.

I cant for the life of me get the f*cking retaining ring to start on the gas tank so I can seal it. I have been trying for the last 2 hours to just get the retaining ring started so I can move on to my next task.

as soon as I start to screw the retaining ring down the damn rubber oring that seals the gas tank keeps getting caught in the threads keeping the retaining ring from screwing on.... im am soo pissed right now that one of the most simple parts if this whole job is what is keeping me from starting my car for the first time in a month

any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

I did mine a few days ago. I'm the same as you, 2g awd, so it should play. Rubber hammer took care of it pretty quick. I went around the perimeter with some light tapping at first, making sure all parts of the gasket were slipping in and not engaged with the rim. When I felt confident, I hammered the piss out of it.

In the past, everytime I took the pump out, that rubber gasket would swell up big time. I could never put it right back. I always had to let it sit overnight and the next day it would be shrunken down enough to fit again and the nylon ring would thread on with ease.

I eventually picked up a spare rubber gasket and I interchanged them everytime I pulled the pump assembly so that I wouldn't have to wait to reassemble it.

Thanks Paul thats what im going to do eventually. I figured it out tho, the oring goes inside the gas tank hole then you drop the assembly in and screw the retaining ring down....

Only took me 3 hours of cussing and no patience with the damn thing to figure it out.

Hopefully this info will help people having this problem from now on :thumb:
