Fuel problem? Very thirsty turbo?

I'm going to just cut right to the chase. I just finished putting a FMIC on today & I noticed when i was driving around i was losing gas like....well something that loses gas really fast! So, coincidentally I was low on fuel when I noticed this, so i decided to do a little experiment! I put in 8 gallons which should easily get me 160miles+ right? WRONG! My little low fuel light decided to came back on after 108miles, and i was driving in low to no boost !!! There is no noticeable leaks on the ground ofcourse, but you can smell gas when driving the car. Could this be because of the front mount, boost leaks, or the stock fuel system is really that bad?

I guess i should mention what I'm driving & such! I'm rollin in a 99 GSX with a evo 3 16g, custom intake, 2.5inch turbo back, & the FMIC. Stock fuel pump & system.

Sounds like you're runnin pig rich if you smell gas while driving... Stock fuel system on large injectors, or stock injectors?

Do a boost leak test any time you mess with the pressurized air system. All of those leaks will jack up your fuel trims.

Did you remember to plug in the vac hose back into your intake pipe that comes from the charcoal canister (emissions)? If not, that may be a reason why you are smelling gas since it's a vent line.

I'm running stock injectors & rail & pump. Yeah, there should be three hoses that connect to the intake correct? The BCS, the one that goes into the motor it's self (sorry i dunno the name), & to the left of that one is another tube the goes down over to the right of the battery. The third one won't stay attached to the intake because of the intercooler pipe is in the way. I can take a picture of it if you would like, if that would make it easier! Is that the charcoal canister one? I'm just gonna mention this too, I deleted my EVAP canister (which is the samething as the charcoal canister or no?) would that also contribute to the smell?

Lastly, I do have one major boost leak & I'm looking for something to plug it up besides tape right now

Bingo.

also with the stock injectors, it may just be flowing too much air for them to keep up. If the tune is out of wack and running way lean off throttle, your gas mileage will be just as bad as if it were running absolutely pig rich.

Im going to have to say that the major boost leak you speak of is whats causing the majority of your current problems.

Also plug that line from the charcoal canister. You're getting unmetered air in the system. The 02 sensor is adding fuel to compensate.

Anyways, check that your maf is plugged in ( right by your air filter). Im getting terrible milage right now so I ran my cels and it turns out my system isnt getting any intake air readings.

I usually blame bad gas on maf / boost leaks/ or front 02 sensor.

I can run the car superlean. No tuning this to run "ok", just pull the fuel pressure WAY down. And my gas mileage improves as would be expected. OR bogs. But the fuel mileage doesn't get noticeably worse.

I feel so honored that one of the Holset gods replied to my post !!!!

Anyways, yea i plugged up my boost leak, plugged the charcoal canister vac house & clammed it on so hopefully it stays, & used some "silicone spray" (aka hair spray) to keep my couplers attached for life, works like a charm ! Gas mileage improved until I decided to hit full boost ofcourse!
