Very very strange oil problem

So this is whats werid. I have a small crack in my valve cover which leaks and every so often I'll have the good old dipstick shoot out. So I should get low in oil because I've had a couple good spills from the dipstick but no, no oil loss. none at all. What bothers me is that I'm getting pretty loud lifter tick which usually means for me I'm getting low on oil. I don't want to over fill though. So what could be the reasoning behind this. Anyone else have this problem or have any tips? Thanks

BTW I use Mobil Synt 15W50. I know its thick but helps w/ the hot summers.

My dipstick kept popping out but I cut a 2 inch piece of fuel line and wrapped it around the dipstick and the dipstick tube. The dipstick is still removable but it wont pop out anymore. If you have lifter tick get the revised 3g lifters.
