Does anyone have a picture of a frontcase and all the bolts with the torque specs and the bolt placement? It seems like there are 3 different size bolts in the front case bolt kit....

I looked in the haynes manual and researched but I cant seem to find this exact info. in 1 place.

Install a new gasket and lube the crank oil seal and temporarily bolt the front case to the block.
Mount the oil filter housing with a new gasket and torque all M8 bolts to 14-16 ft.lbs.
NOTE : The M10 bolt in the red circle should be tightened at a torque of 20-25 ft.lbs (the red being the VERY TOP RIGHT hole)
Install the castle plug and torque to 14-20 ft.lbs. Don't forget to install the o-ring on the front case groove, you risk cracking the front case if you torque the castle plug without it.
Install the oil pump sprocket after lubricating the oil seal and torque the nut 36-43 ft.lbs. This should be done before installing the oil pan as there's no easy way to lock the sprocket with the balance shaft gone.

I hope you can read all that man, if not just let me know and I'll make it bigger...

And both of the post are referring to a 6 bolt bottom end? Sorry I should have mentioned that.
:banghead: my fault for not looking at your profile, I just looked at your avatar pic and assumed.

Heres the 1g (6 bolt) front case breakdown in the repair manual.

Also wouldn't hurt to use a light coat of copper spray on the front case and filter housing gaskets, and a bit of blue loctite on all the bolts.
One more thing Jen, you never listen to what vendors have to say on this site because they are just that... VENDORS. Especially Craig, he's got no idea what he's talking about. :D

AHAHAH. Just kidding Craig, I had to.

To be honest with you Jen, I've never had to take the front case off of my motor I just have the repair manuals downloaded on my computer. Listen to Craig because I'm sure he's been there, done that.

LOL

Hey...I'm a vendor in title only. I work out of my messy home garage like everyone else.

And you're right...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last week. :D

...I'm sure he's been there, done that.

Once or twice. ;)

I think his is what your looking for. It's also from the FSM a couple of pages past the one gofer posted.
You might want to download both the 1G and 2G FSMs from scribe. The links are in the DSM FAQ forum under the Tech menu.

Definitely listen to Craig about loctite. A couple years ago I had a bolt fall out of the front case at 80mph after only 3K on a fresh rebuild. Took out the timing belt, etc., etc., etc. I followed torque specs, but that's NOT enough.

Sorry to hijack an older thread, but I felt this was a good place to ask a few people who have been here before.

I recently bought an assembled shortblock, and decided to take of the front case to inspect the machine work.

When reassembling the front case, I used all new mitsubishi hardware, and have torqued everything down to spec. Now that the front case is reinstalled, I am left with this strange shoulder bolt and I don't remember using anything like it during the reassembly.

Does anyone know off hand where this bolt is used in/around the front case?

Looks like a bolt that mounts the tensioner.

Just wanted to add where the different bolts go on the front case of a 6 bolt since that wasn’t answered in the original post.

-3 bolts that are all the same length go in the upper left hand corner circles in red.
-Shortest bolt - blue
-Second shorted - yellow
-Longest bolt - green
-The only 14mm bolt - orange

-All 12mm bolts including the 4 ofh bolts 14-16ftlbs. This includes the BS tensioner bolt.
-20-25ftlbs for the one 14mm bolt.
