I was just wondering if anyone know if you can take the flapper off a turbo, and if you can how do you do it.

Hey, I'm somewhat new to turbo'd dsm's. But by "flapper", do you mean the WASTEGATE(the flapper that bypasses some of the exhaust from hitting the exhaust tubine of turbo, which spins the compressor wheel)? IF SO, you can get Adjustable waste gates fairly cheap which will allow yoou to barely open, not open at all, or to open farther earlier. There are also ways to alter the rod that physically moves the flapper somewhere on this site if you look, though that is not a recomended procedure. But it could save you 70 to 100 bucks I'm thinking. If you go with the cheap (not recomended) way, you'd definetly need an aftermarket boost gauge though. Hope I helped.ROFL ROFL ROFL

I know I saw a thread not too long ago (within the past month maybe) about this. "oldman" had replied to it. It's apparently a pain in the a$$ and requires grinding. I think they were talking about getting the circular flapper off of the shaft. If you just want to extact the flapper and shaft together, you might just need to grind off the weld where the external lever is welded to the flapper shaft, but I'm not sure if you have enough clearance inside the O2 housing to slide the flapper+shaft all the way in through the shaft hole in the housing.

Maybe try a search on oldman's threads for "flapper" in the past month.

I am going to run an external wastegate but its going to be off of my o2 housing that is why i dont want the flapper there and I dont want to weld it shut cause then I have to use it off the manifold.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but i see this question never got answered and i also wanted to know how to take off the flapper so i can run my external wastegate off an o2 housing.
Thanks.
