First time build, Block help.

Well I've been jacking with my car and dsm's in general for a while now, moved from 2g to 1g dsm, changing parts, typical maint. and basically, I want to build my own to really know my engine inside and out. Before I get into asking 1.6 million questions, I'm looking to get a block 6 bolt off craigslist, what am I looking for before I buy? I dont mind machining but trying to have a good foundation. What are some signs that I should walk away, I see a few on CL for 40-60$

There isn't much to look for in a block. just make sure there aren't any scaring in the cylinders, cracks would be bad. i guess you can bring a straight edge and some feeler gauges to check for warpage but i doubt there will be any because its a cast iron block. since you don't mind machine work just measure the bore and make sure it hasn't been bored out too much. hope this helps.

Yea, I appreciate it, basically make sure it hasn't been bored out too much before, what is the safe limit for a 4g, I think bore .020 over would be ideal unless scoreing is really bad, that way I have another rebuild in the future. Shouldn't be too bad, just hot tank, bore, re deck, paint neon green (jk) ,flux, hopefully 500-600 will cover it.
