help, my first build!!

Hey guys, im new here, and have a few questions about my build. First off, let me tell you whats already done to my 97 gsx. Its got a 16g turbo, 255 fuel pump, custom headers, intake, FMIC, wide band, afpr, and more. Its set to 15psi. I want to buy a 3" exhaust for it, down pipe, and injectors. But, im not sure if i should just go for a cheap exhaust (3" catback off ebay) or buy from dsm-parts, and get megan racing 3" catback, for an extra 200 or so? Same deal with the down pipe. For the injectors, what size should i go for? Lastly, i was planning on getting it dyno'd after those parts. Tell me your suggestions please! Anything helps.

If you do decide to go with DSMlink I would still keep the wide band. Can plug it into your link to have it monitor in your logs. All depends on what your goals are with the car in my opinion. If you plan on going E85 shoot for bigger injectors as they are around the same price, and link will help you manage them easy. Down pipe and exhaust all depends on budget i guess, Ive used Megan Racing parts and never have had any problems with them and they are not expensive. Good luck man.

One more small comment, from the looks of your picture, i think your still running the stock upper ic pipe right? If you are I would invest in some hard piping... makes a world of a difference imo.

Don't go cheap. Get a turbo-back from a reputable company, cheapo ebay ones are going to crack, leak, and probably won't fit worth a damn especially if you're running an upgraded rear swaybar. Evo 560 injectors are more than suitable for your mods especially if you run meth-injection which I highly recommend. An afc is more than adequate for tuning your setup. If you get a good turbo-back, meth, 560's afc, and a good tune you should easily be making 350whp. I would hold off on bigger injectors and dsmlink until you do a motor build and turbo upgrade.

How much boost are you trying to run? Your going to want DSMlink, AEM wideband A/F, and the size of your injectors depends on what your power goals are.

AFC's are $250ish new, $100ish used. DSMlink is @ $500 and you need a laptop (properly configured). DSMlink is a very good tuning tool, but it's also very complex. An afc is a cheap and easy to use solution, especially if you get used to how it makes you're ecu react. It sounds like he's trying to do things on a budget and not a confident enough tuner to use a DSM link. That's just my .02

I would get DSM Link and have it tuned on a dyno. if you do this now, your next set of mods can be fine tuned

I always believe in preparation. You can spend the money now on an afc if you don't plan on doing anything in the future. Link will definately extract the most power out of any build, whether mild or extreme. You will definately need a logger if you plan on running just the afc. So all together its gonna cost as much as a used v2 link. You can find v2 link in the classifieds for $300+ and v3 for $500+ which includes everything. The exhaust and downpipe will really open the car up. Those are the 2 most important initial upgrades. Hope this helps.

I would recommend link but he's gonna need an eprom for it too. I don't recall if it will work on the 97's or not but I would look into evoscan.

dont listen to that, i purchased a "REPUTABLE" apexi n1 exhaust last august. Saw no snow or anything and the backside of the muffler blew out a few months ago. I have to cut the muffler off and UPGRADE to an ebay muffler that has a stainless backside. Piping is piping, there are many good ebay exhausts out there. Dont listen to everything people have to say, do your research on certain parts and youll end up saving big time, also buying used stuff off the classifieds are the way to go 90% of the time!

futhermore purchase a cxracing 3inch downpipe off of ebay its under 90 shipped and is 2.75 inches right at the o2 housing then quickly shoots to 3 inches. Its the best downpipe for the money and fitment is spot on! For a catback id go megan n1 or something that is at least stainless. AWD exhausts arent as prevalent on ebay but can be found.

Or... Dont get it from ebay? Get it custom made at an exhuast shop. That crap is dirt cheap, dont have to pay for shipping, 1-2 day turn around... Make an appointment and they can generally get it out same day.

from my experience many exhaust shops dont offer mandrel bent piping so you would be getting a 3 inch piping that necks down to 2.25 inches or so through bends. Ebay kits are atleast mandrel bent. Also many shops dont carry stainless steel piping so if you see any amount of rain or snow that thing will rust over. Ebay exhausts are proven and are cheap! Look up threads on ebay exhausts. If you have about 400 dollars get the ssautochrome exhaust. It is full 3 inch turbo back, that is a downpipe, cat delete(test pipe) and catback with a resonator. Full stainless steel. Great reviews. sounds like the sound of the apexi n1 except its proven to outlast the 600 dollar catback!

if you need technical support to install a exhaust you need to get the hell out of dsm's. How hard is it to find out which end mates to another end, what are you going to do put the muffler where your cat is supposed to be, dont be retarded and buy an hks exhaust for 700 dollars for a cat back when you can get a full working exhaust for much cheaper, piping is piping. I will NEVER go back to an APEXI exhaust ever, worst piece of SHIT i have ever bought for my car.

no offense cause i love you guys slowboy but sometimes its just as good to go ebay. Take for example the b and m or megan shifter, same exact thing as b and m. Ive had a b and m (which broke) and a ebay 28 dollar short shifter, same feel and the ebay has lasted twice as long so far. Im not saying the ebay is better, im saying it is the same thing alot of the times.
