Ever have one of those days where everything is seeming to work out perfect? I thought I did. I bought my DSM back in September of 2010 and I have loved it since. I wanted to take it to the strip and to a local cruise so bad last summer and this year I finally got to make it. Today was my lucky day to try it out for the first time at the strip and boy was I nervous. I had a few runs and they were all pretty terrible, I've always avoided racing from a dig since I have the GS-T. So after about 4 runs of either bogging from a dig or missing 2nd gear ( yeah I know smooth huh? ) I finally managed to do it right. I launched in the boost and just took off and I even managed to hit second just right, this was probably my best run yet and I was pulling hard in 3rd gear going a needle hair over 80mph as I was coming towards the end of the 1/8th mile. Boom. I blew my bottom end out. There's a hole the size of my fist, probably a tad bigger, in the bottom of my block right above my oil pan/oil return line. I can see my crank. The question is has anyone else had a day so thoughtfully planned go so bad?

That sucks bro...
When I lived back in Dallas my buddy had an old POS accord and when he launched his exhaust fell off haha.

First time is always the hardest. I'm heading out in a few weeks for my second time ever. My car hopped so bad I thought I was going to blow an axle. That's why my avatar has that bad looking 15 sec pass. Hopefully I break atleast 14 before the big16g goes in or there's really no need to because it's driver error or bad motor LOL
There's a member here with an n/a that did 14. I feel so ashame LOL

Haha I wouldn't worry too much about how fast you go :p It's all about having fun. I had a blast up until the said blowing of my bottom end. It's just a shame cause that was the best run by far and my motor blew right before I crossed the line.

I know man it breaks my heart I love these damn cars the only thing I wanted more was an Evo :p I just don't know what I'm gonna do about it yet.

Yeah those Evo's are sweet! Keep your head up, my first DSM was a GST.. then I had a GSX.. and.. now :D!! LOL. Anyway bro sucks about your block! Did you find out what the issue was that caused it? Just old age or did you go lean during the run?

That sucks...

But now you know the importance of proper supporting mods when running a larger than stock turbo! (Going off your profile, I do not see anything about tuning devices or fuel support) Based off of that, it sounds like you went lean and it doesn't take long at all for a catastrophic failure once you go too lean!

They say the motor runs its best before it goes boom.

I've seen worse. Like a brand new built motor blowing up on mile 1.
Good news is a 4g63 stock bottom end is cheap to replace.

I blew my stock 2g bottom end 2 days after finishing the AWD swap. I picked up a 1g 7 bolt bottom end for $100, threw my head on it with new timing components and was back at it. All in all about $400 and a week of work.

Well you won't know until you pull the engine. Just curious how many miles were on the motor. If you are looking for some cheap parts of course the junkyard is your most valuable resource...beside DSMtuners. Also this might be a good time to think of upgrades on motor internals. There are articles on DSMtuners for any level of budget for motor upgrades. You just have to search.

Theres over 182k miles on that motor. I was closing in on 183k :p Sounds good it'll give me something else to look into as I still do not know what I'm going to do about all this. Maybe if I ever stop moping around I'll tear it down and find out how bad it is.

I remember when I first bought my GSX. Picked it up in NC and drove it home just fine. Already had a GST with some good parts on it so I figured I'd transfer them all over and sell the GST. Everything was going perfect until I wanted to put in my brand new cams and found a nice gouge in the cam journals. Three heads and one year later she is running perfect (knocks on wood) :D

Dang i'm sorry to hear that bro, these things happens to us all to time, but always remember you need the supporting mods or else the same thing will happen again.

I feel your pain and im sorry dude. My 95GST i had had a rod through the block when i got it. So i got a JDM motor put it in I probably drove it 10k. I went to Michigan to visit a friend of mine. I was comming home and was about 2 and a half hours from ft wayne IN and the bi*** crank walked on me I was irritated but found me a nice clean 6 bolt with 60K on it cheaper then a 7 bolt got her put in a week later and was back on the road well until a little over a year later and she found the back of a semi when i passed out due to finding out i was hypoglycemic. In all you will get her fixed and if your a true DSMer its worth the fix. :) some times i swear we love our dsms way to damn much LOL.

Sorry man that just sucks. I blew my engine the first time I went road racing. I was on my 3rd lap when it blew. I had coolant and oil all over the track and my windshields. Good luck on rebuilding.
