Hey guys just picked up a 93 eagle talon TSI, 5spd. This is my first turbocharged vehicle as well as AWD car, so any tips for a starter would be appreciated! My main question is that my car has idling issues (not major it either surges between 800-1500 rpms or idles high around 2000-2400 rpms. I want it fixed buy I'm Not to concerned with this because the guy who sold it to me showed me a small screw I can adjust the idle with (just past the valve cover) but it is nearly stripped from adjusting and I can hardly move it. Does anyone know what this piece is called and how much I can get the part for?
My second question is that I have an exhaust rattle around 3800-4500 rpms (again doesn't bother me to much) but when I shift while doing some spirited driving I hear an awful noise that sounds similar but idk if that's the exhaust rattle or something else, any input? (My biggest issues with this is I can barely hear my BOV because of it). Thanks for any and all input!

Your car has what we call idle surge now, which is where the rpms fluctuate between two points continuously. Fairly easy fix. This article will tell you all you need to know about idle surge.....http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/tttt/tttt3.html

The little screw you're referring to is the base idle set screw or BISS. It's plastic and easily stripped and becomes a vacuum leak. Any 4g63 throttle body rebuild kit will include a new BISS. Snowboarder (a mod on this site) sold me a rebuild kit that included a new BISS. He might still have some.
Do consider rebuilding the throttle body, as it is fairly straightforward and probably needed on a car that old.

The exhaust rattle is something you're going to have to further investigate or record a pull with your phone and post it. There are a number of exhaust heat shields under the car that could be missing screws. I would jack of the car and start poking around. Post what you find and we'll help where we can.

well if your 'spirited driving' involves trying to grab gears and shift quickly, you maybe grinding gears. DSM transmissions tend to grind durring that kind of high rpm shifting. slow down when your shifting, not the rpm of the motor, but the speed of your shift. crisp calculated movement will aleave the grind, i found this out the hard way, wasting a trans and finding that the clutch pedal assembly was junk. but thats not for worrying about now.

Do it right the first time and rebuilt the throttle body. youll save yourself a headache when you begin to modify the car and start chasing boost leaks.

I'm looking for kits to rebuild the throttle body and can't find any (locally) and I know I'm not grinding gears I learnt in my past cars to be careful not to grind when shifting at high rpms.
I appreciate the input though! :thumb:

I had a DSM and recently got this one to convert into a road race car, I remember the idle issues. Thanks Kreez for sharing that link!
