Hello I just bought my first dsm woot woot a 92 AWD , but I do have a question the clutch in it needs to be replaced, and I am not to terribly sure as to what i should get, i know oem is definitely out of the question. I do have big plans for this car and want it to be complete by next race season so should i just get more then likely they 7.25" quartermaster clutch or wait till i actually need it? and also is there anything you think i should change with my setup and/or add?

I have done alot of research and as of now my future mods are

- Stroking it to a 2.3L
-I am gonna have the block bored out to either .020 .030 or .040 over depending on what my machinest recommends and the dsm community here would like to suggest.
-100mm butchered, knife-edged crank from ffwd
-pauter X rods unless i find something considerablely lighter not aluminum. (since olivers arent made for 6 bolt blocks)
- Ill proly get all hardware bolts, gaskets, etc. from ffwd (better choice)
-ross pistons from ffwd or venolia from JAM not sure just yet ( help me which -you think I should choose) at 9:1 CR
-Comp Cams 101400 or kelford 280's ( help on these as well)
- AEM Adjustable cam gears ( havent done alot of research yet is there better out there)
-FFWD stage 3 Head
-custom intake mani (not sure who just quite yet seriously leaning towards buschur unless someone can recommend better)
-Shearer eahaust mani topmount divided
- VRS Turbo back exhaust 3" piping
- Wilson 75mm or 90mm TB (not sure)
-Garrett GT4088R (debating on twinscroll or not trying to learn more about it)
- Tial 44mm Wastgate
- Tial 50mm Q BOV
-Bushcur FMIC
-FIC 1650cc Blue max
- Fuel pump -http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=18307&cat=880&page=1
- FPR -http://www.slowboyracing.com/product.php?productid=6201&cat=4190&page=1
- Fuel filter -http://www.slowboyracing.com/product.php?productid=7321&cat=89&page=1
- All AEM electronics and tuning Software :) (unless someone can find something better LOL)
- Oil and trany cooler kits (need?)
- Slimfan from ffwd
- From what I have read no need for new lifters or rocker arms true?
- Quartermaster 7.25" Twin disc clutch ( or should i get the triple disc? if twicks could chime in and give his input would be great since I think it was him i read he might be going to a triple disc clutch)
- Stage 4 Shep tranny
- Axles from raxles
- All new SS lines
- 10 pt Chromoly Cage
- C16 Race gas shooting for 800AWHP or 9s 1/4 mile
I might be forgetting other stuff as well if so please chime in and let me know and please let me kow what you think of my future plans and what you think i should add or replace.
And I know I didnt put anything down for suspension or brakes just electronics, engine and tranny so you guys know what my plans are to help on which clutch i should get now.

Thank you Seth

I will try and get pics up asap i dont have access to a camera at this time I will def have them up by the end of this weekend. but in pretty good shape as far as body which was most important to me since this is my project car! but only problem with it was clutch bad and master cylinder going bad! got it for 750

What clutch do you have in it now? OEM?

Also looking at you list what is your hp goals? and is this track or DD?

Yes OEM is in it now.

HP goals 750 to 800 AWHP or 9's i 1/4mile whichever comes first LOL

90% track but occasionally street driven on weekends.

My brother has a 90 Talon AWD and his mods are in my bio and had 2 extra entire clutch kits lying around and my dad threw them away when my bro moved to cali :( His tranny is built to sheps stage 2 specs

That's around 20k worth of parts, good luck.

Yes I know LOL well aware but its what I want to do and thank you

Oh and I am gonna have the block bored out to either .2 .3 or .4 over depending on what my machinest recommends and the dsm community here would like to suggest.

800AWHP or 9's? Maybe you should do a little more research on exactly what you want to do and plan an attack approach at that point.

There are so many things that you are leaving out, that you haven't even considered. You want 800AWHP with the stock fuel lines and tank? Do you want to run E85 or C16? You didn't mention any form of tuning software, if you are wanting to run SD or a maf, etc.

You're going to need a fair amount of safety equipment as well if you want to put the car on a track at that point.

Do you mean .020? Because boring the block out to .4 over, well you aren't really going to have cylinders.

Also, why are you not considering aluminum rods?

No I have considered all that just forgot to list is all thanks for reminding me. Im tired and should be going to bed soon LOL, But im gonna be running all new SS lines I think i mentioned that not sure ill be sure to edit though, And this would be on C16 sorry I did forget to mention that, and yes Im well aware of the safety i will be putting in a 10 pt chromoly cage man im to tired, i forgot to write out quite a bit of struff told you i was proly forgetting some stuff LOL.

And yes I meant .020 not.2 or anything like that LOL, those would be some big cylinders LOL.

Thank You Seth

Yes it gets expensive really fast tryin to make that kind of power he is asking for. I don't wanna look at my invoices anymore.

You and I both, let's just say if I decide to sell the car I should make a small fortune. :barf:

Also, OP, you say this is your first DSM? Why do you have a 90 TSI with a built 2.0 and ETS intercooler listed in your mods list?

Im sure he means .020 and he would be fine with some I Beam rods.

He listed X-beam rods, and said he wanted lighter. He's going with a butcher crank, yet doesn't want aluminum rods. I was questioning his reasoning behind that decision.

If you want to use C16 you best going with Q16 instead....

The 90 Is my brothers car and I was trying to find something out for him is why.

I dont have a real reason I guess as to why not aluminum rods I guess its because I have been around steel rods all my life and trust steel rods a little more (I trust carillo oliver and pauter the most) then aluminum and if I do shoose to go aluminum it will be groden rods from ffwd and buy the stroker kit from them and have eerything cryoed and coated.

Thanks for the help and constroctive critiscm I appreciate it. I appreciate your honest opinion

Thanks Seth

I see, he needs to do more research with this, or get someones blueprint LOL....

Make sure the car has a 4-bolt in it and if not, swap it to a 4-bolt. Does it have a 6 bolt in it becuase half way through 92 they switched to a 7 bolt. Look into suspension too. The picture you posted is a 1ga which is a 90-91 but you say the car is a 92.

He said a couple posts back that the car in the pic/garage was his brothers.

LOL you know what I didnt even think of that LOL but i will definitely find out come monday when i go pick up the car. But I dont think it has the 4 bolt rear end which I am definitely gonna gonna swap to the 4 bolt if it doesnt. But I'm pretty sure it has the 6 bolt block ### im pretty sure i saw the CAS but to be honest I wasnt to terribly worried because I might just get another 6 bolt plain block tht way ill always have 2 motors in case something happens to my built motor. But I thought that 92s were mixed with 1g bodys early and 2g body late in the year but like i said i will definitely find out monday. And I will def get suspension just didnt think it was relative to deciding whether or not to get a new quartemaster clutch now or wait.

Thanks Seth

So you pretty much think since im gonna go through all this trouble with this build i might as well just get aluminum rods instead of steel? the thing is I just dont want to have to do the shaving of the rods to make it fit of course I could have my machinest do it for me but I am trying to doas much of the work possible myself. Or could ffwd do it for me before sending them out?

Why are you going to shave the rods? Groden rods are drop-in, they do use a special modified bearing, but they supply you with those.

You may need to clearance your block to use the rods, maybe that's what you were thinking of?

Yes That is what i am thinking of LOL thank you. that will be the part ill have my machinest do.

Now being that im now leaning towards the aluminum rods and just be easier to get the ffwd stroker kit with groden rods and ross pistons, and 22mm pin instead of 21mm. Correct? and does anyone know how the custom specd ross pistons are from FFWD?

Thanks Seth
