Alright, i just bought my First DSM. the prev owner paided little over 1,500 for it. ran it a few times said it over heated once and have had problems ever since then.. i paid 400$ for it.. it was a ES with a 96 GSX motor was swapped into it.... they replaced the water pumper and other misc things. due to the over heating once.. they did a compression test and all cyl where 151 what i was told.. i can't get the thing started i can shoot starting fuild into it and it will fire up for a few seconds and die... what could cause this? i know its getting spark... i can hear the fuel pump clicking on.. a friend of ours messed the DIS? on the left rear side of the vavle cover? or is that the cam sensor?... either way it tries to fire on starting fuild it has back fired and did run for about 10 seconds. the oil looks clean no water mixed into it.

Welcome.

It seems as though the injectors aren't spraying. Can you verify that there is pressure at the fuel rail? If so, it could be a bad injector resistor pack on the firewall or the a bad ecu. The ecu may not be internally grounding the injectors, causing them not to work. It could also be a few other things I'm missing. The thing on the left side of the valve cover is indeed the cam sensor (CAS-cam angle sensor). Search the thread for "no start" and you can read through different threads about this. Possibly every problem has been discussed on here over the years.

Welcome, definitely check fuel pressure to start. If someone was messing with the CAS I'd make sure it's not 180* out. When removed the dimples should line up with cyl 1 @ TDC.

Since your new I'll just tell you right off the bat, search button is your friend, don't vent your BOV, make a game plan or a goal for hp you intend on and what you need to do it, maintenance before modification.
Best of luck.
