Finally, a good quiet muffler

Just thought I post a review after having this muffler on for a couple months.

Here are some pics, the muffler is long so its in there tight.

I noticed no change in performance from my N1 with the flap open and I lost about 2psi from my max 15psi, with a slight lag when closed. It gets very quiet, almost like stock when I close it and throttle response gets a bit more responsive when intake is in vacuum.

The noise with the flap open, at first, was not as loud as the N1. Now, after a few thousand miles, it got louder and sounds much better. Noise has not change when I have it closed though.

Its nice to drive the car hard and hear all the loudness and then turn on to a street and just cruise like a cat walking on soft carpet. Thanks for the info Matt, I'm pleased with this upgrade.

Thanks for doing another review of this muffler. I've been eyeballing it for some time now looking for a quiet exhaust solution.

Might have to get it afterall when I does choose to upgrade the ridiculous exhaust the last owner did:ohdamn: welded entire exhaust in one piece :ohdamn: and used press-bent 2.5 inch tubing from the cat back.

It sticks out just about the same as stock, it could have gone in about half an inch more but thats how the shop I took to did the work.

Oh man, that's terrible. I made sure the shop used 3" mandrel bends. It's a nice muffler, I'm sure you will be pleased as well.

Awesome, glad to see it's working out! Have any good video clips?

Impressive you dropped 2psi.

Yes it is; mine dropped way more than that. They must have changed the design a bit since I bought mine. In looking at your pics, it looks like the inlet is right in the middle of the muffler. Mine is on the far right hand (passenger) side which is maybe why I had a bit more room to do the install. Also my tips are welded separately to the muffler, the photo above has a bridge between them.

They must have changed something internally, or my set-up just needs airflow because I was struggling just to make boost.

Thanks for the extra info. I'll be sure to try to get the shop that installs it to tuck it in as much as possible and defiantly go with 3" mandrel bent. I really love that it looks and can sound like stock. A fart can just looks unrefined.

I does look like they changed the design, I never noticed. My remote even has no radio antenna on it and I only got one. I guess that could be why mine isn't so restrictive when closed.

Il try and record a couple clips when I get some time off.

Not to Muffler Block here, but I did a review with a vid of the Magnaflow Pro XS muff and it's great in all categories, $, power and quietness.

That muffler is very quiet, great info! The reason why I got this one though, is because I want it to be able to have great sound and power or all quiet with a stock look.

Got mine in the mail today (from jjrock5, thanks man!). Hooked it up to 12 volts and worked like a champ :hellyeah:

I guess I got the newer design and the older remotes (with antennas)

Has anybody hooked these up to a switch yet? I would assume it would take a custom circuit board or modification to the existing one.

Right on man, so you did get it after all. You know, now that mine has the tabs welded, I'm thinking of painting the muffler flat black and leaving the tips chrome. With my bumper and the car all black, the chrome stands out a lot.

On the remote, I thought about putting it on the dash and feed power to it with the cars battery. It would need a resistor to lower the voltage though, down to like 1.5 volts. Seemed like too much so i left it as is.

Yeah I was going to do mine the same way and use some high temperature paint or something.

I will try to figure something out with the remote :sneaky:

Painted :hellyeah:

That looks really good painted! I think I'll do that next time I have the car in the air. Did you scuff up the surface at all before painting?

Let me know what you figure out with wiring the button into a switch that can be mounted on the dash. I want to hook it up to the POWER/ECON switch out of an automatic trans car I find out at the scrapyard.

I didn't scuff it up much at all and just used a lot of really light coats. It's the vht flameproof flat black. In person the muffler looks like it's made of soft foam LOL

Sure will let you know when I figure out what to do with the remote. I'm going to try to use the cruise control on off switch on the side of the dash

I finally got my car back from the fabricator. He completely replaced the exhaust from the turbo-back with all new custom 3" mandrel-bent stainless and of course my shiny new Varex muffler. It sounds awesome! :D My car used to be so loud that cops would give me the stink-eye and occasionally follow me even if I passed them going 5 under the speed limit, but I shouldn't have to worry about it much any more. On my way home from the shop I passed a cop in Elm Springs (sort of a speed trap). I was going a few miles over the speed limit and I figured I might get harassed as usual so I quickly reached down & pressed the "A" button on my key-fob just in time to skate right past him at whisper volume until I was out of sight. I love this thing! My car has a T4 tubular mani and a built race engine with lopey cams so in the past it was a little embarrassing sitting at stop lights in traffic because of my obnoxious exhaust note. With this muffler I can simply hit the button and she's perfectly quiet. I have my BISS set to idle pretty high in order to compensate for the cam lope but my car still sounds almost stock now at idle when I close the valve. When the butterfly valve is wide open, this muffler (with no resonators installed) is still quieter than my leaky old 3" crush-bent cat-back and 18x9" Magnaflow was with 2 resonators in-line behind it. The exhaust note with the valve open is perfect. It's just loud enough that it sounds aggressive, but not loud enough to be annoying. The ability to close the valve and cruise on the highway above 65mph without feeling like my teeth are going to rattle out of my skull from all the noise and vibration is also really nice. On the flip side, If I want to get rowdy, all I have to do is press the "B" button and slam on the gas pedal to hear the sweet sound of wide open throttle. The exhaust note is a nice deep rumble instead of the typical "pissed-off bumble bee" sound that most 4 cylinder cars with aftermarket exhaust usually have. I think it looks really nice too, almost like stock, but it's polished and tucks under nicely so it looks classy instead of ricey.

Here's how the muffler looks on the car...

I know this is an old thread but it seems to be the best solution people have come up with for the problem 'm now facing. To be honest with a 3" thermal i'm embarrased to accelerate past some one from a light if there window is down. It makes me feel like they should be saying "what a dick with his loud ass useless muffler" LOL I know but i'ts true
My question is for jkimes, dd you make those dyno njumbers through this muffler>? And seeing how it looks like you got yours fairly recently has the price changed any or waht did you pay in USD?

Glenn- I can't comment on price since it was so long ago, but my dyno numbers were done with this muffler and all the mods in my profile.

I know this thread is kinda old but I was on the website and can't figure out how to order a muffler . And there is no eclipse section its just evo lancer and mirage. Can someone help me out here. Thanx
