They stop you from overshifting and bending/breaking shift forks.

We sold 941 shifters in the past 2 years for the dsm's i just pulled the entire database and had 2 warranty concerns in total Im not sure how so many people are fine without the stopper but fidanza still engineered a stopper for the new design.

Anyone have pictures of the Fidanza short shifter installed and how short it really is for a 2G? I searched but only founds threads but no pictures. Thanks :thumb:

"Short" doesn't refer to how high they stick up, but to the lessened throw to change gears. Fidnanza is known to be crap, go with the eBay cloned B&M. It sticks up about ½" less. You can saw and re-weld virtually any shifter stalk.

Why is Fidanza known to be crap? They introduced a new stop in all their shifters. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226887

I bought one last week from Ultrarev.com (Ultrarev on here) for $55 and I love it. The height is the almost the same, but unlike B&M which has a wierd short throw (different in every gear), this one has what feels like a 40% short throw in every gear. :D I test drove a car with a B&M short shifter and I prefer the Fidanza one.

Because they had to introduce a new stop in all their shifters, and the reputation was established on their products before this correction.

And so goes the market. I prefer the B&M, but I'd have much more preferred getting the illegal ripoff exact copy that sells for $30 instead of the got-it-for-used-from-a-member-here-at-$100. I don't see any difference in throws on the B&M between gears, but I have mine set at 35% reduction instead of 50%, and I don't know if that might have been what you'd driven.

The one I test drove was set at 50% and it felt like some gears had no throw reduction while other gears had 50%, as you said maybe the 35% is different. The Fidanza one comes with a mounting plate that has the pivot bolt thing (I have no idea what it is called), it is mounting plate that the shifter bolts on too.

hey everyone, I was looking into getting a short shifter does anyone know if the short shifter that ultrarev sells for the 2g, are they any good? Does anyone have one and how easy was it to install. I ask this because I've searched and found 1g's who have had issues with this shifter, but couldn't find any 2g input.

I believe a lot of the concerns from the 1g users were due to fitment and the lack of stoppers. Fidanza has recently redesigned their shifters to improve fitment and include stoppers. From what I've read, the B&M is significantly better, althought it does cost a bit more.

My 2g came with a Fidanza which I only noticed after I drove my buddies 2g and though "thats a long throw compared to mine", LOL, so it is a noticable difference. My brother also just bought one off of Ebay taht I believe was a B&M style thats a shorter throw than mine and feels great, hes not that mechanically inclined and he installed it so it couldnt be that tough.

so it seems like a ebay B&M knock off is the way to go. Can anyone give me an example with what they look like on ebay?

I did a search and didn't find anything on this shifter. Does anyone on this site have one? On their site (www.jnztuning.com) it says that the shifter come with a stop unlike the fidanza shifter I was planning on getting. Just would like to hear some reviews of the jnz shifter before I buy it.

Also which bushings do you reconmmend to go along with the shifter? I was thinking the SBR bearing kit. They have 3 differnt types on their website http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=4189.

Whoops. Fixed.
I was also thinking of getting JNZ's. Supposedly fidanza updated it to have stoppers now, and fixed a few diamaters so you don't have to cut away shit. I bought it, wasn't able to put it on and I decided to just keep it stock since I didn't want to #### around with grinding metal just to put it on.

I'm gonna save up and give JNZ's a try.

However, get the symbroski kit and the cable bearing kit. I have the symbroski but not the bearing, I've got something simliar to it off of mach v. I'm going to get the bearing though :). Give it a try, what the hell.

Ohh, is the symbroski kit for the actual shifter itself? I thought it was for the shifter linkage like that other 2. Guess not. I guess I'll buy both the sbr shifter cable bearing kit and symbroski kit.

Anyone else have anything to say about the JNZ short shifter?

I've got 1 - very nice piece. :thumb: Didn't want to risk 1 of the cheaper kind that didn't have the stops so I waited for 1 of JNZ's to be available. They buy the bits & pieces from various sources & assemble the unit in-house - they do a nice job with it. Install was pretty easy. I combined it with the Symborski shift plate bushings, the Speed Source shift cable bushings, & the heavy 2G short shifter knob from Mach V. Result is nice, short, crisp shifts. :rocks:

The metal tube fits on a part of the shifter. The round "washers" go underneath and ontop of the base of the shifter unit to replace the stock rubber gromets.

You should keep in mind that with this item you will need to grind down the top of the bracket which it goes on.

I was thinking about buying the B&M style short shifter, I'm confused to what you mean about grinding down the top of the bracket. What do you mean?
