I changed my leaky oil pan gasket not long ago and it is still leaking. I used red rtv as the gasket and ran a nice continuous bead around the whole pan making a circle around each bolt hole. I think the two mistakes I made were not waiting for the RTV to dry before putting the pan back on, and I think I tightened the bolts too much ( I ended up breaking one of them).
I'm gonna buy a torque wrench and make sure they are right this time... how much torque do the pan bolts require? How long should I let the RTV dry this time before putting the pan back on?

Factory manual says: 54 ft lbs then loosen, then 14 ft lbs on all of them then go back and add a quarter turn to all of them and then go back and add another quarter turn to them. :dsm:

Does anyone know the torque specifications for the pressure plate to flywheel?
I know is around twenty something but not sure can anyone tell me?
Thanks. I need to know asap. :thumb: :dsm:
for a 1990 the tourqe will be 94-101 ft lbs. :thumb:

I hope to god you're not torquing your pressure plate bolts down that tight. Jeez, they're only M10's.

I always torque them down to 18 ftl/bs

Search.... http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187841&highlight=arp+torque
That was the second thread in the list. The first was yours.

Anyway, head studs for your 6 bolt is 80ft/lbs using moly lube on threads and washers or 120ft/lbs with 30wt oil on threads and washers.

I jus revieved my main studs and Im looking at install directions and I alittle confused on the what torque sequence to use. It say use manufactures torque sequence, is this even given? and also dont I have to install in different torque stages? Also I dont understand how the directions say install studs "hand tight" Sorry for all the questions, Im just really confused on how to install these things.

clean the thread on the block
install studs hand tight on block
tightening sequence

oops***this is for head studs***

When they say "hand tight" they most likely mean tighten them all as much as you can by hand before you torque the studs. The torque sequence will be the same as the mitsubishi recommends. Thats what I did when I put my ARP studs in my block and I never had a problem! I know how you feel though!! Sometime I wonder who writes the directions for these companys! I called my machine shop and double checked with them and thats what they recommended! :dsm: undefined

Does this mean I torque the stud to 60 lbs, or do I torque the nut to 60 lbs? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.........

next time just search for this I typed "Arp stud install" and got TONS of posts. But since im here I got u some advise from another thread written by thekyguy11 this is what he wrote!

The arp studs are supposed to come with a special "moly" based lubricant. It is extremely important you lube all the threads, and the surface of the nut where it will mates against the washer. Also, there are different torque specs for using the arp lube, or if you just use motor oil, I think the specs are a little higher.

When installing the studs, use a round wire brush to clean the threads they are going into first, then lube the stud and install it ONLY hand tight. Not sure why they say this, but they stress it in the directions. They also say if they are going to be permanent, loctite can be used, but they must be torqued before the loctite dries, which I would think to be nearly impossible.
(quoted from thekyguy11)

Okay I understand everything you said, but I dont uinderstand the torque specs. my question is do the studs have to be torqued or do I leave them hand tight and and only torgue the nuts?

What that means is, torque all of the nuts down to 30 ft/lbs in the sequence provided in the above picture. When you have them all done at 30 ft/lbs, then repeat the same process with your torque wrench set at 60 ft/lbs. Then again at 90 ft/lbs. The studs just need to be hand tightened into the block, not torqued to any specific spec.

thank you! This cleared up everything...it kinda weired how you dont have to torque down the studs, are the head studs the same way?

okay you guys are going to kill me, but im looking at the torque spec and it says 60 lbs, should I go with what you said and go to 90 lbs? also is a stud tool even needed since you only have to go hand tight?

ARP reccommends approx 75 ft. lbs. when using their assembly lube. If you use reg. motor oil, its reccommended to go to 90 ft. lbs. However, when I installed my ARP head studs, I went to 90 ft. lbs w/ using the ARP assembly lube.

Dan, this thread is about main studs, not head studs. :shhh: :|

I just spoke with ARP on the phone. They recommended torquing their main studs (for the 4G63) to 60 ft/lbs maximum. They also recommended using their moly lube and the 3-step torque process. I would go 20-40-60 ft/lbs.
