Getting ready for my winter project of rebuilding an F4A33.

First I need one.

Found a few JDM units with part #: F4A33K1UPQ

Are there any differences I should be aware of? Worried about weird gear ratios, etc. I can't find anything on this other than Google showing it as a "JDM Unit".

Anyone?

the f4a33-1 is fwd the w4a33-1 is awd so it has a output shaft for the transfer case to connect to, it is coming out of the bell housing by the clutch and or the torque converter

Gear ratios I would have to check on in my FSM but I think the final drives are different

But I'll say one thing parts are exchangeable according to my fsm I'm at the bar atm but when I get home I could always look
My rebuild kit for my f4a33-1 was the same part number for the w4a33-1 it just excluded the transfer case

Do you have a parts transmission or something
?
Seals are bit different because the awd has metal axel seals and the fwd has rubber with a spring any specific questions ? Assuming it's on a 1g?

I don't think I was clear. I'm replacing a 5 speed manual in a 1G FWD with a 2G FWD auto (F4A33). I just want to make sure the "JDM" version of the F4A33 = the US version of the F4A33 so that I don't have surprises when I rebuild the transmission this winter.

Tbh man I would just get usdm transmission and not worry about it being different I've never dissembled a jdm trans
So I can't help you there my fsm doesn't even cover or even mention the jdm transmission

Why go jdm if you don't mind me asking?

I know the gvr4 had a switchable diff (fwd/awd) but that would be the awd transmission

But someone's gotta know !

The reason for "JDM" is that there are very few "USDM" F4A33's to be found anymore.

I've done a ton of research (JDM ASA/etc) and it looks like this is a direct fit. Only concern might be final drive ratio (there were only two so I've been told for the F4A33: 3.958 and 4.376 however the tag # I have comes up with a Spyder which to my knowledge was the 4.376 (i.e. USDM ratio). Everything else on this transmission looks identical.

I'm going to disassemble the trans this weekend and compare to the FSM.

Good times!

I've been looking into doing an auto F4A33 in my red rocket Colt project, so I have done recent research on the subject, so far from what I have read, you can't use the 2G trans in a 1G, I think I recall reading something about the axles being different [not sure on this but thats what I read], but I know for a fact that the wire connectors on the outside of the trans are also different on the 2G, so you'd have to add new wire connectors, and possibly a different neutral safety switch... also the torque converter on a 2g is a lockup converter vs the non lockup on 1G, I also know the 2G cars have a electrical speedometer sensor, instead of the cable style that the 1G F4A33 has [not sure if you can swap em over to 1g style?].

You absolutely can use a 2G/F4A33 on a 6bolt/1G. Kiggly racing sells the parts to make it possible.

This is for a drag car, so I don't care about speedometers.

Shifting is being done via a roadrage box, so no oem tcm garabage to deal with.

the 2G axles may still be an issue.
looks like 93-99 are interchangeable [based on what I read] so if your 1G is a 93 or 94 it will work straight up.
may have to swap knuckls/hubs if your a 90-92.

And i'm not sure if the kiggly kit mentions axle differences, or if it accounts for this when using the kit in a 1G car... it looks like on his web page he mentions that "other changes are needed" when used in a 1G... could be the axles differences.
