ok, the auto tranny in my 1997 GST is dead, I'm looking to get another one. It has been impossible to get a direct DSM replacement here in my country, so I'm trying my luck getting one from a different car.

So far i think the tranny from a 3000GT/stealth is identical, but this car is almost exotic here :boring:.

Will a tranny from a Galant, Diamante or Sonata fit my car? And if it fits, will it withstand the torque from the 4g63?

Thanks, and sorry about my grammar. :)

One it has to come out of another fwd car. I know the galant has a 4g63 motor in it. Cant be the vr-4 since its awd. Not sure about the other ones.

you can't get yours rebuilt?????? haven't really heard of any other cars having the same trasnsmission as our auto DSM's

Noup, there is no more parts to rebuild the F4A33-1, That Transmission of (DEAD).

Wait are you saying that theres no more parts to rebuild a F4A33-1 in general???? cus theres plenty of parts to rebuild that trans.

There is a thread here that is been discussed once, But I be leave that it is not the F4A33-1.

SORRY I MISSED TAKE.
MY APOLOGIES.

LMFAO and yet I was able to get mine rebuilt LOL ROFL ROFL :p :p. IDK where some of these guys got that from. Dude automatic transmissions can be rebuilt more than once. if they couldn't be rebuilt anymore then why would IPT even bother selling a useless rebuild kit for us????

DanCG why don't you hit up Stangmurdera and see if he can get you a good deal on a used one?? Hes a vendor on the site.

I like that link with all of the tips on fluid and filter changeout, but what do you do with the dirty fluid that's remaining in the torque converter - doesn't say anything about that.

Oh yea, pull one fluid coolant line off where it goes into the radiator, put a bucket under both the hose end and the radiator nipple end, start the car and put it in "N" and see which opening shoots out that dirty fluid from the torque converter's pump (put a piece of hose on the radiator nipple to head it to the bucket so you won't get fluid all over everywhere if that end shoots out fluid) ... and have 6 quarts of new fluid ready to replace that fluid in the torque converter when it begins to run dry..and you want to see red coming out of either end when you add fluid while it's running to let you know that the system has been flushed out of old fluid. Then, shut off the car, cap the hose back on the radiator nipple, start the car again and back into "N" to check your fluid level and add fluid if necessary to the correct line on the dipstick.

"Whew! That wasn't so tough, was it"?

As far as I know flushing a transmission is not really a good idea cus sometimes its that sludge inside the transmission that is keeping it from failing on you.

If that's the case, it's not going to last long either way.

There are many different models of the F4A33-1 with varying valve bodies, solenoids, gear ratios, and bell housings. The ones for the 3000GT for example have a bell housing to mate with a 6G72 block not the 4G63.

Unless there was some hard part failure, I'd have your existing one rebuild, all the seals and friction materials replaced and a shift kit installed. I don't remember if the 2G FWD Autos have a trans cooler besides the one in the radiator but it should and the existing ones cleaned out.

I got a "master rebuild kit" but as we were rebuilding the tranny we realized that the oil pump and the central axis had serious failures (oil leaking everywhere :( ), do you guys think that some place like dsm graveyard have this kind of parts?

DanCG why don't you hit up Stangmurdera and see if he can get you a good deal on a used one?? Hes a vendor on the site.

Thanks I'll contact him.

UPDATE: I have located the internals from a 3000GT tranny, I think this is the same tranny except for the bellhousing.

I just need the central axis and oil pump, to rebuild the original trans, do you think they fit?

Thanks...

I don't know what the "central axis" is exactly, perhaps you can word it differently or try explaining what it is, but the transmission oil pump is the same in the FWD 3000GT/Stealth auto transmission.

Sorry about the term "central axis", it is a rough translation of what they told me at the shop.

If I got it right this time, what I meant was the "transmission input shaft", where the torque converter is connected to the rest of the tranny.

Thanks.

I at least know the gears are made the same. My friend lost fifth in his stealth and took 5th gear out of a dsm transmission and replaced it with his fifth gear and has been driving it to work everyday.

It seems that the "input shaft" is a part of the oil pump as far as I can tell. This is what I'm looking at and it -- the input shaft -- appears to be there down the bolded line. PNC 27010A represents the whole oil pump assembly which, again, is the same used in a 2G DSM FWD auto transmission and a 3/S FWD auto transmission.
