1G 92 4g63t w/ f4a33 tranny problem

The car out of the blue only had reverse and third gear. All gears worked a couple times after that. And when they worked the tranny shifted fine but went back to just reverse and third gear. I know the 2nd gen model trannys have that four pin solenoid but does the 1st gen also? Transmission was replaced by the dealer and only has about 50k on it.

Check TCU? Caps leak on those just like Ecu's.

91bomb I have to thank you so much for your post. My eclipse has been down for about three years because I thought the issue was in the tranny. Today I pulled out the tcu and took it apart. I found one of the caps did leak on to the board and short it out. Any suggestions as to where I can pick one up for a decent price.

I'd check ebay, local junk yards, or dsm part-outs here on tuners. I know 1g's tcu's are interchangeable meaning you can use turbo on N/T's, AWD/FWD etc and only thing that matters is getting one with the same amount of plugs (2 plug vs 3-plug). Shift points may be a little different between these different model cars tcu's but for most people it's irrelevant since shift points are mainly controlled by how hard or light you are on gas pedal. You may be able to recap your tcu (if board isn't damaged) for cheap and there's been members here who've offered these services.

In case you didn't know 1g ecu's + tcu's have cap leakage issues so it's not uncommon for them to blow out or leak. My ecu is not original (it's a professional rebuild) and I still make sure I have a spare ecu just in case and if I had auto tranny good chance I'd keep a spare tcu too.
