External wastegate blowing straight through

i bought an external wastegate and manifold with a flange.
i welded my flapper hole shut. installed everything and when i start it up at idle even the exhuast is just coming straight through the dump.
i have the diaphram in the right postition and i have no idea on why this is going on besides a badwastegate? any ideas would be great

external waste gate usually work with spring with a set tension. Most likely the spring inside the wastegate is gone, it might be still in their but what I mean by gone is that it is no longer usable. It most lily has lost its set tension and no longer going to function properly.

What type of waste gate do you have? Pictures? model?

it is just a cheapy, it is a JDM sport external wastegate 38mm 8lb spring i believe

PICTURES WOULD BE GREAT, they are worth a thousand words. Maybe we can help you take it apart and diagnose the problem(s).

I would recommend a TiAl or a Turbosmart wastegate

well i bought a fp manifold that came w/ that wastegate and for the price i paid i mainly just paid for the manifold so i didnt come off too bad. and i will get pics asap

FP as in forced performance? they made a manifold with a wastgate provision? I am pretty sure FP makes cast manifolds without wategate provisions. was one welded on?

it is a forced performance manifold with the wastegate flange welded on it.

did you check your boost fluid? JK. we can steal Craig's wastegate tomorrow and throw it on to rule some things out.

In the first picture it seems like the flapper has a small gap around it so any exhaust will get through that small gap there...

Your wastegate is missing it's lower seat that's why their is a gap between the valve and wastegate housing.

Yup just as overboosted said you are missing a valve seat which is certainly causing you wastegate to be "stuck" open. It should looking something like this. This is a picture of a Tial valve seat but the one you need should look similar.

Yeah and since it is an egay wastegate the seat can be had on egay for a little under $25
