So just recently my exhaust started to make a weird noise. For instance, say I'm in third gear at about 4,500 RPMs and I leave it in gear and just let off the gas to slow down, my exhaust starts to make popping noises. These noises almost sound like small backfires but it does it continuously and consistantly until I come to almost a complete stop and if this helps at all, if anyone has ever heard an SRT-4 slowing down, it makes the exact same "popping" noise from the exhaust when slowing down. This only started happening recently so can anyone tell me what could be causing this becaust at first it sounded kinda cool but now I'm just worried that it could mean problems with my car and it's getting annoying....PLEASE HELP!! Thanks.

Getting annoying? I love that sound man! don't worry it's nothing it's just b/c u have like no back pressure now. :thumb:

NO! Why doesn't mine do that? I love that sound! Mine is just smooth on deceleration. :(

Usually popping noises is from a rich air to fuel ratio. For example, putting in a WALBRO 255LPH without a AFPR = Lots of popping during deceleration.

Don't these cars have fuel cut on deceleration? That's why O2's peg full lean when you let off the gas, that also prevents the popping, which is why I've never heard a DSM do it. I do wish mine did it though.:(

I'm pretty sure if I go driving at night, I can get a few flames out of mine. It doesn't read rich on DSMLink, but something isn't quite right.

My friend had 1g with a full 2.5"/no cat and a Evo 16G running I think 15 psi with an ebay muffler and he burnt up his bumper LOL.

Yeah the popping sound with anti lag is your turbo destroying itself and your exhaust valves burning up.
No wonder my motor and turbo has been runnin for 2 years with anit-LAG. Wow, I must just have one in a million 4G63T. Those internals are strong...I guess.

BTW, have you heard of a thing called a "switch"? Yea, it turns the anti-LAG on and off but it only works when your finger is up to it.

You're most likely running really rich, one of the reasons could be from a bad o2 sensor. When mine went bad, I was running rich enough from it that I started hearing a popping noise when I let off the gas. Have you noticed poor gas mileage?

Yea seriously v2ner, who in their right mind runs anti-lag on a street car? I've only ever heard of WRC rally cars using that, and turbo spool time is a matter of life and death for them.

Back on topic

Mine shoots flames out the O2 dump if I let off quick and full boost. I don't think I've got one out of the exhaust. Mine is like the guy above me, one pop at random, if I'm lucky.

ok thanks guys.... ha ha i guess it is kind of cool i just wanted to make sure i wasnt doing any damage.....and yea i have TERRIBLE gas mileage by the way...and my check engine light is on....someone told me that comes on if your O2 sensors are bad.....thanks everyone

You should have maybe put this info in the original post....makes it easier to diagnose the problem. ;)

Your front o2 sensor is bad. SO is mine, I cant wait to see what happens when I finally put a 3" TBE on next friday.

are you talking bout like the throaty popping you get when decelerating, like with my magnaflow full exhaust when im in like 2 or 3rd and drive say past 4k and then let off the accelerator it makes that popping noise but it's not like a backfire, i'm pretty sure that is just from no back pressure correct?

:| Gee...only the fastest underground racers in the CHI-town and Madison area runnin on 42Rs and 70s. You'll know when you get there kids. Like I stated before, it has an on/off switch.
