So just recently my exhaust started to make a weird noise. For instance, say I'm in third gear at about 4,500 RPMs and I leave it in gear and just let off the gas to slow down, my exhaust starts to make popping noises. These noises almost sound like small backfires but it does it continuously and consistantly until I come to almost a complete stop and if this helps at all, if anyone has ever heard an SRT-4 slowing down, it makes the exact same "popping" noise from the exhaust when slowing down. This only started happening recently so can anyone tell me what could be causing this becaust at first it sounded kinda cool but now I'm just worried that it could mean problems with my car and it's getting annoying....PLEASE HELP!! Thanks.

:| Gee...only the fastest underground racers in the CHI-town and Madison area runnin on 42Rs and 70s. You'll know when you get there kids. Like I stated before, it has an on/off switch.

Wait, you guys race undeerground? That sounds so cool, how can I do that? Is it like fight club with a whole bunch of rules? Do I have to kill anyone to join? Cause im down for that....[/sarcasm]

Obviously you wouldn't know. I only race at the tracks wink wink. Maybe in a couple of years you'll understand this anti-LAG thing. :boring:

Was there a large air temp. drop in your area. My dads RX7 has to be retuned for the summer because there is such a temp. change here. Get someone to drive behide you and you floor it and see if you can tell if a lot of fuel is not being burnt...good sign your running to rich. If so just lean it out a little. Thats would all I get think of.

Just remember, the first rule of underground racing, is that you don't tell anyone about underground racing!:thumb:

ha ha that brinks me back-

How to lean out my car if it IS running rich? I mean my idle was really high at one point so i adjusted the idle screw but how do i do it to almost perfection?

You'll need a fuel controller of some sort like an S-AFC.

That you're running a turbo big enough to need anti lag.
You don't think a 70-trim needs anti-LAG? ROFL Anywaz, anti-LAG is not necessarily a "need" but trust me, it's very helpful. Have you had a big turbo? I mean 61 or higher. It doesn't sound like it. Once you experience it, you'll know that 1st and 2nd are basically meaningless because the turbo comes alive in 3rd and up. This is where anti-LAG will help also.

A 70-trim what? Trim is just another wheel measurement, its meaningless. You could have a tiny 70 trim wheel or an enormous 70 trim wheel. Its just how the inducer diameter relates to the exducer diameter, its meaningless for sizing between different wheel families. How about a 60 trim T3? Sounds huge right? Nope. You could probably fit that entire compressor in the inlet of what everyone on here refers to as a "50 trim" (exaggeration). How about a 46 trim T61? Sounds kinda small right? Nope. That thing would eat a "50 trim" alive. Trim numbers are thrown around far too loosely in the DSM community, thanks to people nicknaming the FP Green (and the like) "50 trims".

Honestly, I've never heard of a 70 trim compressor wheel on a street car (or anything for that matter). Most people just move up to a bigger wheel family, seeing as how larger trims are less effiecent. I (and most people that know what they're talking about) don't compare turbo size in "trims", which once again makes me call BS on you.

Care to elaborate on your setup or at least give some specs on this ginormous turbo you're running?

And FYI, I've driven some cars with very large turbos (GT35, 60 trim T04E, GT40, etc). They all worked just fine without anti lag. Its called patience. And traction is nice too, slow boost onset is a good thing in a 430whp Integra.:thumb:

Of course they work fine without the anti-LAG. Did I say it wasn't going to? Ever heard of master power 70? I did say another one was runnin a 42R too. Cars with the huge turbos will work a lot better with this feature, IMO. BTW, is that a small 60 trim you're talkin about...I thought you gave out this speech about throwing trims around and now you're doin it? Ok, sounds like you have all the experience you need. I pity FWD, that's why all my DSMs are AWD.

Sorry everbody...I'm sick of thread-jacking too.

the running rich thing could be possible for why it pops because mines pops all the time, more so when the car is still warming up and it lessens as it reachs full operating temp, but i was thinking more like when you accelerate ( namely if you have a modded exhaust system ) and you mash it then let off the gas, the air was flowing so fast that when you shut it down suddenly it lost the pressure pushing behind it so it kind of collides into each other at the end of the exhaust and makes that noise because its all trying to squeeze out, and since exhaust flows faster when its hotter thats why for me i believe it does it more when the engine is still warming up....
i dont know if that is at all right but thats my theory... but running rich makes sense too because my milage sucks.

No I've never heard of a "master power 70", who makes it? Is it a Garret turbo? Do you have a picture of it INSTALLED on your car?

And no I wasn't talking about a "small 60". That's why I said it was a T04E 60 trim. See, if I tell you the wheel family, then the trim number has some meaning.LOL

Why don't you go look on DSMtimes.org? WTF Tell me if you see a master power 70. BTW, that one is on street tires too. You guys have no idea. I understand that it can be hard for some people to actually be able to get this kind of turbo as it is not offered widely yet and most people, like you, probably haven't even heard of it.

Lol this guy is giving me a good laugh. We should see how long we can keep him going.
Oh yea, thanks, man...anytime. I think you're more confused than laughing out loud. Just so you know, I never meant to offend you two. Peace, and take care of your DSMs.

Ok whatever, I'll let it go. If only for the sake of not getting this guys thread locked.

And sorry for going off topic, I'm just trying to call out BS where I see it, its not good for the board.:thumb:

Yes, I know, I have reasons why I don't post pics or even mods.
