Hey I'm new to these forums and I have some questions. I'm thinking about running a dump pipe exhaust from the catback on my 97 GSX. Could anyone tell me If this is smart in terms of performance. Also i would like to know what it would sound like, I prefer not to have an extremely loud or ricey sounding car. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about I'm going to cut my exhaust off from behind the cat. I know its done alot in muscle car's but i'm not sure about 4 cyls. Some people told me it will drasticaly cut my spooltime, Is this true? Any opinions/fact's/comments would be appretiated.

Uhhh, just don't do it. I won't really sound "ricey", in fact it will sound badass if you ask me. But if you don't like it loud then you better not do this, because it will definitly be loud. This is definitly not what you want to do to a street car. It will help spool time, but most guys just do something like this when they're at the track.:)

Ya if you dont mind the car being loud then go for it. is sounds awesome. i have my exhaust routed to the side of the bumper. as far as cutting spool time, Oh ya. best mod i have done.

If your worried about getting pulled over than definately don't do it. My friend had it on his srt-4 and it was loud as heck. In my opinion it sounded like crap too. It sounds like theres a giant exhaust leake imho

My exhaust runs straight from my O2 housing to the driver side of my bumper. Full 3 inch. no cat. I'm also running an Evo III so it spools super fast. It is definately not legal. I haven't been pulled over once either.

As far as it sounding like crap, if you take off your exhaust and just run open down pipe it for sure sounds terrible.

If you want something quiet then run a 3 inch turbo back and get a test pipe. That is much quieter than my exhaust.

why would you want to do this? just pick up an exhaust off ebay for $150... if you are really wanting to go cheap, just unbolt the muffler from the rear... its right before the rear sub frame.... that will give you nice tone, as far as spool time, i think the difference would be MINIMAL on a T25 and OEM everything else... if you want a nice tone, just unbolt the axle back... you can even leave the muffler on the car so the cops think its legit...

I don't know, I personally like the sound it makes. And it is pretty legit because I'm straight piping it to the side. I still have my catalytic converter and my o2 sensor, so its legal.
