i have upgrade a 16g w/tubular mani with stock o2 housing... i was looking at the o2 dump pipe and was wondering if i put the dump pipe in, would it effect anything like airflow, lag, airleaks?...i mean i know it sounds cool when wot...would i have to get anything else in order to run the dump pipe...

Are you talking about an internal gated atmospheric dump o2 housing? Well these are some of the gains that you might get with one: Maybe a slight increase on turbo response, MAY help with boost creep in combination wht a high flow catalic converter when you have a 3inch turbo back exhaust. Other gains that you will have are: a dirtierengine bay from all the exhaust gases dumping in your engine bay. Most of the o2 dumps out there don't have the dump tube long enogh to clear the engine bay and dump safetly to the atmosphere. The only ones that I know that they do are: SLS and JMF dump o2 housings. Another things that you will gain is: a more limited sspace between your o2 housing and radiator. The problem here is when you install a side to side FMIC (thats if you don't have one already) your lower intercooler pipe can make contact with your dump tube or the dump tube dumping on the LICP. You will also get the dump tube noise when full boost, which is pretty cool at first but after a few months, it does get VERY annoying.
Personally, I would just go with a tubular internal gated internally dump 02 housing from punishment racing, SLS. JMF, or megan racing. All of these have good fitting. Unlike ebays that you might have to drill the holes on the o2 to turbo flange because they don't line up correctly.

The O2 dump will not open unless it is under WOT. As far as any drawbacks, there aren't really any. Only thing you will have to worry about is emissions and those type of things if you have them in your location.

With the O2 dump you will also see a slight increase in power, as you are dumping to atmosphere with no restriction of the recirculation. Hope this helps. :thumb:

Another point I'd like to make in favor of a dumped o2 housing that David Buschur made a while back is that most aftermarket o2 housing that recirculate have it going back into the o2 housing fairly early. The argument he makes is that when you have the exhaust gases coming back into the o2 housing that early its creating turbulence right behind the turbine wheel. The benefit to running it dumped is that you eliminate that disturbance and it allows your turbo to run more efficiently.

Now, I'm not sure how accurate that is because I haven't finished my thermodynamics courses yet (not that I doubt it, Dave Buschur makes fast cars which to me speaks for itself), and to me it makes sense. On another note though, how much does it really matter? If you're not running a whole lot of horsepower, chances are it doesn't. Then it comes down to if you really want to risk getting pulled over for it and have the sound that will undoubtedly become obnoxious after a while.

I chose to go dumped this time. I had the recirculated o2 on my GST when it was my daily. My GSX isn't my daily.

You are right. The o2 does recirculate the gases very close to the turbine. But this restriction or flaw a you want to call it, will become noticeable or more as you max out the flow capacities of a 2.5inch, 3.0inch or whatever the diameter of you hosing would be. An o2 dump will always be superior than a recirculated. (Performance wise). I personally switched from atmospheric dump, to recirculated. I did notice a slight decrease in psi. But I was also sick of the sound it made and with a dump tube, its almost impossible to install a LICP for a side to side FMIC. I first had an atmospheric dump. An ebay one. I just couldn't get it to fit. Then I had another one, simillar to the one that buschur sells and punishment. The bad part of it was that the dump tube was just way to short. And on a 1g, it would dump right on the cross member and would make a mess. Then I bought another one from SLS. The design was great. The dump tube was long enoght that it dumped right out the engine bay. The preblem was that the dump tube would take the space between the radiator fan and the dp. Making it impossible for a side to side FMIC. I then bought a recirculatet one from punishment and its currently performing very good.

Not necessarily wide-open throttle, but anytime full boost is achieved. Guys running very low boost find this to be annoying because the wastegate will often open while cruising in traffic if you're only running 10-12psi. Guys running high boost (20psi+) never find this to be a problem.

My buddy is running an XS Power o2 housing / wastegate dump on his '95 TSi AWD with an internally-gated Frank 5 20G. He's running around 22psi, and when the wastegate opens you know it. It honestly sounds just as crisp as a turbo that is externally-gated.
