2G EVO3 OFH in 2g (need help)

Yes i am trying to understand how to hook up the oil pressure and light to the EVO3 ofh. I have read all the post there is out there just need some help understanding things. Thanks for any help on this. I will be getting a tap tomorrow.

I am a bit confused on the drilling and tapping part? Also do i need to get different bolts to mount the ofh on?

Is this the right tap to do this.

If you don't understand drilling and tapping a hole, you either need to familiarize yourself with it (this is a simple guide that is pretty straight forward: How to Use a Tap) or take it to someone and have it done. That will not cost much at all. The key here is that you do not drill too far. All you need to do is break through and into the oil gallery -- which means going slowly and being very careful. It's aluminum after all so it won't be difficult to drill. Once the hole is drilled and opens into the oil gallery, you can carefully run the 1/8 BSP tap in it and get what you need.

Yes, that tap you've linked is the correct tap. EDIT: Maybe not; please read on before purchasing the O'Reilly's tap! Also worth noting, since it is a tapered thread, the tap will be smaller diameter at starting end than towards the handle. You do not want to run the tap in as far as it can physically go. Go only as far as necessary to allow the sensor to thread in securely. This means you'll probably need to check it periodically when tapping. As well, you'll need a 21/64" drill bit for the break-through hole.

The bolts needed to mount the EvoIII OFH are as follows:
(2x) 40mm long
(1x) 55mm long
(1x) 75mm long

The 2G turbo OFH uses:
(1x) 40mm long
(2x) 65mm long
(1x) 75mm long

Yes, the 1/8 x 28 TPI is the correct tap.

Since you can reuse the 40mm (MF241261) and the 75mm (MF241268) bolts, all you need is another 40mm and a 55mm (MF241264) bolt.

If you want OEM, those are the part numbers and you can order from wherever you see fit. If you try to find them at a hardware store, make sure you get M8 lock washers with them as they are "washer assembled" bolts.

I'm actually very surprised you found one through O'Reilly's. EDIT: I may be wrong on the O'Reilly's tap being correct -- it doesn't specifically state that it is a tapered tap. I'd be very wary of that as it could be a straight tap and not what you want.

My initial suggestion would have been McMaster-Carr: BSPT Taps. As SeaveeDSM posted in the first thread linked above, there's also 1/8" x 28 BSPT Tap | NEWMAN TOOLS SHOPPING CART and I'm sure many other possible sources.

It says 1/8" British Standard Pipe Tap, so it must be the right one. I walked into a Carquest to buy my pipe taps.

Ok I will look at the Car quest here also. I just don't want to pay freight that's like ten to twenty dollars. I looked at the tap they can get me at O'reily's and it is 1/8x28 BSP. So i think that is right.

BSPP threads and BSPT threads are not the same. Again, my concern with the O'Reilly's one is that it does not specify tapered (BSPT) as the threads on our vehicles are.

No doubt it is the right size. But the right profile? Not enough information to be sure.

Ok i ordered one from carquest today. It didnt have any freight added. They said it was 1/8x28 BSP tap. How can i make sure it is the one?

Normally I'm not a fan of Wikipedia, but their picture clearly shows what is meant by a tapered thread: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threaded_pipe]Threaded pipe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame].

Starting from the tip of the tap, the further up the shank of the tap you go, the larger the diameter should get until it reaches the shank OD.

The threads ought to be the same. The major diameter and the thread pitch will be the same. I don't know how well a tapered thread like on the oil pressure sending unit will match up with a straight thread if that's what your tap ends up being.

I am buying a new oil pressure sending unit. I am wondering if a new one will work with this tap i am going to buy? I will post a picture of the tap tomorrow when i pick it up.

Your oil pressure sending unit will be a tapered thread. If the tap you bought is a straight thread, your oil pressure sending unit may not want to seal up. That's what I'm getting at. Put another way, since the sending unit is tapered, the thread engagement in a hole tapped with a straight thread will be minimal.

If the tap is a straight thread will it still work on the oil pressure unit? I will seal it with Teflon tape before i install? Is this ok?

I can't tell you one way or another for sure as I've never physically dealt with BSPP threads before. The way I'm looking at it -- it has the potential to be a very costly error if it doesn't seal.

I just got my EVO 3 ofh today. I also picked up a tap but its not a BSPT tap. It is 1/8x27 NPT tap the closest they had to a BSPT tap. I know you need a 1/8x28 BSPT tap but i will have to order it and pay $50 almost. So my question is will this tap work?

It will work, might not seal perfect though. If you are really concerned about it, run a NPT tap through it. BSPT threads have more taper so they can be tapped to NPT, but not the other way around. So, tap away.
