hi there
have a evo3 B16 G with ext w/g set up (46mm)
my mbc line is connected to the side port of the w/g the port on the top is left open
i did some searches and this suppose to be the way it has to be hooked up
or should the top one be capped off??
now i dont have any boost at all:confused: the turbo does not spool, and w/g stays shut.
i dont think its a boost leak,
what else can be wrong?
thanks.

Where is your line from the side of the wastegate routed to and what are you using for a boost source? Also what kind of spring do you have in the external (what size)?

If you're running an MBC, the boost source line needs to go on the bottom barb and the (top) bleed line needs to go to the wastegate. To eliminate the MBC as a problem, connect the wastegate line from your external directly to your boost source and see if it builds boost. If it does, the issue is the MBC which could be adjusted incorrectly.

Get us some more info,

Andy

i dont know the spring rate of the w/g its a w/g from ss/autochrome(46mm)
the line from the w/g is going to the mbc
i basicly use the same setup as with a internally gated turbo
from mannifold to mbc/bov and from mbc to w/g
does an ext w/g need a different hookup?

Since you're unsure of what spring is in the wastegate, I would simply connect the wastegate line (on the side) to your boost source for your MBC (either the j-pipe or wherever your boost source is tapped). Try that and see how much boost you build. Basically this will run off of the external only so whatever the spring is set it to will be your maximum boost. If the car still builds zero boost, I would remove the wastegate cap and look inside to see what kind of spring is in there.

To answer your question, there's no difference between using an internal or external gate in the way the lines are routed. The only thing that changes is that your bleed line on the MBC goes to your external wastegate instead of to the internal gate.

Finally, I need to ask a stupid question. Has the internal wastegate been removed from your turbo and if so, has the flapper opening been welded shut? If not, you'll never build any boost since there's nothing to keep the flapper from blowing open.

well.. thank you for that last stupid question,it was not as stupid as you think,:thumb: it made me realize that i made a mistake :coy: (i think)
here is the deal,
i bought a bullseye turbine housing for my evo 3
and with the turbine housing i bought the o2 eliminator 3 inch o2 housing,
the o2 housing has a 3 inch flange on it for a t-band clamp and shuts of the wastegate pasage.
but i could not use the o2 housing because of clearance issues with the alternator
so....... :coy: yes i put back my stock o2 housing and did not realize that the wastegate passage is not blocked off and from reading your last question i understand that the turbo will not make boost untill i find a way to shut off the wastegate passage on my turbine housing.

THANK YOU!!!!!:thumb:

You're welcome. I'm glad it was something simple. If you want, the best way is just to have it welded shut.

Glad it all worked out!

Just to let you know, my freind bought a SSAUTOCHROME waste gate for his wrx last week, and the waste gate wouldnt hold boost.

Why such a large waste gate on a EVOIII? I was under the impression that 38mm and 40mm were the more than enough for that turbo.

I tryed finding out more about the exhaust side! How do u like it? Does it flow more than a stock one?? I really would like pick one up.

well the w/g came with the exh mannifold sort of a package deal
about the exhaust side(you mean the bullseye turbine housing)
i didn have the change yet to test it but of the looks of it it must flow a lot better than the stock one its huge!!!
i will try adding some picks later on so you can see the difference

I have to agree. I have a Bullseye housing on a Garrett 50 trim and I love it. It breathes very well as long as it's sized correctly. Where the Bullseye housings fall short is on very large turbos like Holset HX35's. It would be great if they had a 10 cm version of their housing for those monsters as I'm sure it would help flow in the upper RPM ranges.

Please do a sort of write up on it, I really would like to know how it compares to stock!

Im try to put down one of the faster EVOIII times, let me know if its worth the switch, and how it affects spool, were more or less power is made etc.....

If it can flow up top more, and hold boost better at high RPMs then it looks like somthing that would work for me thanks...
