ok, so everyone knows...im not asking about specs and how good they are, and how to install them,or if anyone has, or what they have. i know all that

I have searched around and found all the tech aspects aboth the intake mainfold and whatnot. but nother that will distinguish it between a 2g

what i want to know is... are there any VISUAL ways to spot a TRUE evoIII engine. i may be buying a 2g talon and i was told its a E3 engine but the are very simmilar to the 2g 4g63.

any help would be great and any Evo III owners or Evo II swap owners insite would be appreicated.

-thanks-

Dont quote me on this but I thought the cyclone motor was out of the JDM Galant RS and the evo 3 motor has what looks like a 2g mani. Im going to search real quick and see if I can find an old post where you can tell the difference between the intake mani's.

This is where I learned and I was correct the cyclone mani is NOT an evo 3 manifold. Read this and It will show you the difference between the manifolds and you can use this to see the difference unless they swapped just the mani. Also they should have a 16g and 550 yellow top injectors I believe.

intake manifold say '' cyclone turbo intercooler''.

You really should search first. Click here.

BTW Jay, I think you just forgot to add in the link. ;) And the 2G IM looks much different than the EVOIII IM.

yellow top injectors, special plenum style intake manifold, pointed star logo on silver painted valve cover (red covers are galant's), silver stripe spark plug cover, big 16g turbo (duh) these are the easy to spot differences... :thumb:

the evo 3 is almost identical other than the throttle body is larger and does not have the typical 45 degree bend in it,it also has the 550 cc injectors which are yellow, the intake manifold is almost the same as a 2nd gen but it does not have a mounting place for a MAP sensor, you must connect a vac line direct to the map,and also the 16g turbo , and they are 7 bolts any questions let me know i have done a evo3 in a 95 talon awd and a 98 eclipse sypder fwd

Actually the evo 3 intake mani's has a different flow then the 2g mani.

lot of u guys are mentioning the main diffrence between the evo3 and the DSM
but do u guys know that the evo 1 and 2 has the same head , same intake , same injectors , but just extra diffrent ecu and the big 16g

and this is the picture of the 510cc yellow denso injectors
You must be logged in to view this image or video.

its written 510 beside the injector , anyone got proof that its higher in cc please do show it , would like to see that

i come from the land of JDM :D , so i do know the full specifications of the VR4 E39A , EVO 1 , EVO 2 and EVO 3.
dont ask me about any DSM models, i know only 10% of your knowledge on it

if you did fit in back the standard JDM ecu, this is the code of the ECU
E1 - 7701
E2 - 2468
E3 - 2364

if u bought the halfcut on your own then this is the chassis numbers
Type Evo 1
Chassis CD9A
All numbers

Type Evo 2
Chassis CE9A
Up to 0008500*

Type Evo 3
Chassis CE9A
From 01000001* onwards

turbo identification
EVO 1,2 turbo no. 49178 0145
EVO 3 turbo no 49178 0147

identification of head code
EVO1 - G6K - 1 or 2
EVO 2 - G6K - 3
EVO 3 - G6K - 4 or 5

this is what u will see on the piston once u open the head
EVO1 - H1
EVO2 - H2
EVO3 – EV

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but is the EVO 3 TB sized up the same way like a 1g NT, just with the right seals and such for boost?

By the looks of it thats what it seems like, just trying to get confirmation. TB's.com was gonna do mine for teh 14b car, but i came across one of these for 70 bones, and was thinking about picking one up, would go quite nice with the E3 intake mani im using LOL.

I believe the 8.8:1 is for later generations. I know the EVO 3 had a higher compression than any before it.

Thanks Justin. Reason I asked is that I'm getting 190 across all cylinders (engine warm, throttle 100%, fuse removed, all plugs removed)

since everyone is already talking about evo engines I'm gonna ask LOL. I have an evo engine that i bought awhile back for 600$. It was at a core place where i bought a head for my eclipse and was from a wreck but the guy didn't know what year evo it was from. It's newer then evo three I know due to it mounting opposite and the obvious fact of hot and cold sides reversed. But idk how new it is. I tried looking up the block serial numbers with no luck. It had 560mdl injectors. What should I look for to tell what evo it came from? Or do I need to call mitsubishi with the casting numbers?
