I was given a Evo III- engine with some goodies on it for my 95 GsX but the bad part is it needs rebuilt, (cousin says it's knocking and using oil) after a previous rebuild.

I am guessing that i need to go .20 over bore so new pistons are in store, so i was just gonna get a pair of forged pistons (hopefully inexpensive if there are any) i'll just reuse the internals and have someone install new rod and main bearings. and then i was gonna have ArP head studs installed and maybe freshen up the head. This is what i wanna do is there anything i am missing. And is the Evo III motor a 6 bolt ?

This is what is installed on the engine:

agp turbo , turbonetics wastegate and bov, ffwd cams, aeromotive fpr , 780cc injectors,
sbr clutch , maft translator and 3.5'' gm maf

This is what is inastalled to manage the stuff on the engine:

greddy emanage , innovative wideband, 190lph pump, keydriver stage3 chip

What i have to install also is :

SAFC II (blue face) and Greddy Profec B spec- II

I am hope that after the rebuild with this stuff installed i'll have close to 400 whp. I am fairly new to DSM stuff but is this set up a good set up or do i need to relook things.

And when i order pistons for this Evo -III motor do i just order them as if this was a regular 1995 GsX motor is does it need to specially ordered for this specific engine with the added .20 over bore.

Is 7 bolt as strong as the 6 bolt or is it weaker.

And thanks for the reply...........

7-bolt: Better head, better pistons

6-bolt: Better rods, less of a chance of crankwalk

So in order to keep the crank from possible walking and make the bottom end as good if not better than a 1g i need to put a leash on the Evo III rods and just upgrade them to 1g's or just use aftermarket ones right or ?

thanks again

You can't eliminate CW....however, there are many precautions to take that would "slow" it down. I've only seen one 7-bolt walk in my life. It's not as common as everyone thinks. Yes, 1G rods are stronger than 2G rods. I believe EVO III rods should be good for 90% of us on this board.

Ya i'll probally just order a set of oversized wiesco forged pistons and oversized rod and main bearings and put it together after its machined of course. And i think it should be fine.

I have the Evo-III tranny also so imma see if i can get ahold of a Evo-III diff so i can use the Evo-III tranny. And then i think i'll be on my way to my 400 whp.....:thumb:
