I bought a 1991 eclipse gsx about a year ago, and the car was in disarray. After changing the computer and fuel pump I got it running, but the 14b was locked up tight as a drum. I invested in a Big 16g Evo III and Pacesetter ceramic coated header. I installed both, and am about an hour away from firing, need a coupla bolts to hook exhaust back up, and have to wait til tuesday to get. There are still a bunch of nick nack problems i need to diagnose with the car first, and the last thing i want to do is have to rip a head off of it due to a head gasket fail, or worse. So what i am wondering, will the stock boost controller and stock BOV prevent that turbo from rammin too much boost in it while I finish working out the bugs? Or should i put it on hold til i get a boost controller?

Thanks for all input.

Your BOV should be good since it is a 1g. The problem you will run into (just had this with my setup during tune) is with your wg flapper. With no boost control the stock wg is set to 10psi i believe, but with a e316g you will creep up to 23ish if you are going WOT. When tuning my car at WOT we wondered why there was a boost "hicup" at 10psi then it would go up to 23psi. Well looked to adjust the MBC and realized forgot to put it in.

damn that sucks because I was about to drop a evo3 in my car in a month because my 14b is blowing oil. I only have 450s and cant support much from a 16g yet.
How much do you think 450s/ 190lph walbro/ stock fuel pressure could handle with a evo3 16g?

And if I get crazy with porting on the w.g. do you think it will calm the boost creep enough to be safe? I only want to run that thing at no more than 13lbs for now; if possible unless Im going to have to not boost it.

Is 20psi with the e316g too much for a stock setup under typical conditions? I had the car running with no turbo at all, motor sounded very smooth. But all in all, i have no idea the condition of the internals.

Porting is suposed to help the creep, which exhaust are you running. I read that the boost creep really only happens with upgraded exhaust (more flow). The porting did not help my creep, since FP ported everything as much as possible, thankfully I was looking for higher boost.

Im not stock Fuel pump, 255 hp walbro. But like i said, i dont want to hurt the car any worse, but i do want to see if it will boost, and work out other bugs i am currently having. If the stock components arent gonna send rods thru the oilpan, thatll make me happy..

So long as I keep the boost lower than 14 id be ok huh?
And Locutus78 you say porting didnt help you,.... Im getting nervous about running that turbo then, might have to increase fuel pressure or something temporarily.

boost creep is not a permanent condition. it only happens every now and again, usually in 3rd gear too from the research i've done. i've had it happen to me in second though. 14 psi is the max you want to go with stock fuel components. it won't hurt anything to run it, and it won't hurt to creep every now and again.

If I had wanted it to stay out of the 23psi range, then no it did not help, but that is where I was looking to be. The problem with the e316g is in the flapper. do a boost creep search and there was a thread a while back that explained it all, it is where I got my info.

Right now im running open dp on the 14 on stock boost set up and yea it creeps to like 15 16 lbs in 3rd if I let it, but 1st, 2nd , and 4th dont tend to creep for some reason.?
( Id get my full exhaust on if I put that 16g on. )
Guess Id just have to let off of boost before it creeped too high huh.
