Ok, well I have a new EVO III 16G Turbo that is ported with the 34mm wastegate. My friend fried his turbo and he wants to buy my turbo from me for what I paid for it (havent installed it yet) But I have been looking at all the 50trim threads and they are getting me excited. So I would like to know how would a nicely tuned 50 trim like the SBR G50 or PTE Dual BB one spool compared to an EVO III. I am going to be doing a bit of autocrossing and drag racing so I want a good mix of both. Also I plan on running Comp 101200's. Also what 50 trim is the most reliable and how much more work do I need to do to fit a 50 trim on instead of an EVO III. I know there is alot of threads on 50 trims but I want to hear first hand from you guys that have them. I want to stay under the $1100 mark or so and have something that spools around 3500rpm on my 2g GSX. Thank you, Derek

The 50 trim style turbos are becoming a major favorite amongst the DSM community. However there are many here that have the 16G style turbo that have put up just as impressive, if not even more impressive numbers than the 50 trim. Either way, you're gonna have to add new piping, and feed/return lines. I went with the PTE 50(I bought from Slowboy, with is the same as their G50)a while back, and recently been able to pull 296.8 whp @ as very low 12 psi. I must add that tuning plays the biggest part in what you car can/will do.

Well tuning wont be a problem. I will have DSMlink, Denso 660's, AGP FMIC, and a Walbro 190LPH. I am building up quite a pile of parts then one weekend once I get everything it will all go one. I was looking at the AGP RS49, the PTE 5031, and the SBR G50 or maybe even the dual ball bearing. From what I have read some of the PTE and SBR have problems leaking because the lack of a seal but I also read most the 50trims are all the same so I am somewhat confused. So basically out of those turbos which one is going to be the most reliable and give me the quickest spool or should I just keep my EVO III for proven reliability. Derek

GSntncT why are you only running 12psi? Are you on stock injectors or whats the reason for not turning that sh*t up?

LOL! I was wondering when someone was going to ask me. The main reason is I just got back from a 6 month deployment, and I am not use to driving my car, or any car at all. If you see my vehicle profile, you'll see that I can indeed run higher boost-I just choose not to at this time.

Well from all the threads I have read I heard to many horror stories about the RS49T so its ruled out. The garrett RS49 from AGP sounds alot better in terms of reliability. I dont need to run 10's I just want a turbo that will be fun on the street with 20PSI and do alright at the dragstrip with 24-25PSI. I sure the 50trims will be faster but from what I have read the MHI turbos are unbeatable in terms of reliability and I dont want to be taking my turbo off every 6 months so I may just keep my EVO III 16G. Plus I will be doing more autocross that drag so I want quick spool and I will have Comp101200's so that should help my topend some. If anybody else has comments on this topic please chime in.

Go with the 16G for the autocrossing. You'll get much better times on the track. Plus if you tune real well with lots of supporting mods, you'll probably be able to beat 50trims on the drag strip. Just like everyone said though, tuning is most important so make sure you can get everything down perfect before you put in a bigger turbo.

I believe no one has mentioned it yet, you will need to get a walbro 255 or at least rewire your 190 if you switch to a 50 trim.

I already have a Walbro 190LPH with a 10ga rewire kit so I am good there. I also have Denso 660's with DSMLink ready to go on so I am good on fuel. I agree, an EVO III 16G will be better for autocross. But how much will Comp 101200's let me shift at with my EVO III 16G. I was hoping about 7200RPM but I know these cams will drag my turbo down some so let me know. Derek
