I want to get a 4G63 engine out of an Evo III. The only problemn is that my car is and auto and the Evo didn't come with an auto trans until the Evo VI. Can I buy the 4g63 out of an Evo III (engine only) and have it hook up to my auto tranny, or do i need to convert over to manual to have the engine work?

i want an Evo motor ### they have 16g turbo stock with 270hp where my Eclipse engine has 210hp stock

They have these diffrent, 510cc injectors,16g turbo,exhaust mani,intake mani,o2 dump, and stock are on i think 16psi.

if you put it in your car as is, it will run like crap, unless you use your injectors etc etc,, and then you will have Stock 2g HP.

To take advantage of those parts you will need something to tune with, AFPR, fuel pump.

A 6bolt 1g is way way better.

i dont have the money for a 16g kit, with short route FMIC

so i should just mod what i have or go with a 1g motor then?

when i first got my evo3 engine, i swapped it right in with the 510 injectors and everything - it ran great then and still does

evo 3 turbo is $559 at extremepsi and you can get fmic for $400 punishment racing bran new parts

Other then the forged crank isnt it true that he wont need a 6bolt ? I thought people only swapped 6bolts into 2g's is to aviod crank walk .... So honestly the 16G is the better way to go I think.

Or you can get a used 16g in great condition for 300-400 and an ebay FMIC for like $150 and a piping kit for another $100 and save even more money. :thumb:

i usually buy my parts from a store (top speed auto accessory) and they are expensive but i dont wanna get ripped off on ebay. I know the turbos on ebay are way cheaper, but are they just as good as a GReddy or HKS turbo?

Buy the 16G from extremePSI or FP. It's not ebay, they're genuine MHI turbos that countless members are running.

And do a search on eBay intercoolers. Lots of people are running them with success.

Much cheaper then the $1500 your store quoted.

Crankwalk is overrated. People should swap in the 6bolt block because. . .

--it has much thicker rods
--much larger rod bolts
--straight cut oil pump gears (more durable with less support: like when you drop the b-shafts)
--and the larger headbolt holes (which means that even if you use arp headstuds with a 7bolt, the same price 6bolt arp head studs are stronger)
--the 6bolt technically does crankwalk less often
--They often come with the OFH that allows the external oil cooler

I'd swap if I were looking to build a 500whp 50-trim/hx35/td06-20g powered street car. Much cheaper than buying forged internals for a 7bolt. . . But the OP only wants 16g potential.

Stock evo1-3 fuel pressure is 38psi. . . I believe.

510cc injectors are 510cc rated at 43psi base fuel pressure. 510cc X SQRT( 38 / 43 ) = 480cc . . . It probably would work. Idle and cruise would eventaill be corrected out from running rich with a shift in the fuel trims. But WOT would still be even richer than stock which is rediculously rich as is. This would reduce power and cancel any advantage running a larger turbo at the same boost as a smaller turbo (which the OP probably will have to do). There would be no advantage to the larger injectors when jsut swapping the longblock/injectors/turbo. Definately cant get into the potential of a 16g with 480cc injectors ;)

ok so do all DSMs crankwalk? and how do i know, if i were crankwalking, how badly damaged the crank and sensor are?

also how do i know if an engine is 6 or 7 bolt, I am looking at a 4g63 out of a 1g, but i am still not sure how to tell 6 from 7 and what i currently have...sorry i'm not good at wording stuff

Yes. But 6bolts crankwalk like 1/5th as much as 7bolts. I see 20% of the total number of 7bolts as a number thrown around. So it's up to you. I will add that if the motor is going to crankwalk, it likely aready had. These cars arn't exactly fresh from Normal, IL. But some have cranked walk at closer to 200K . . . You just take a gamble, Albeit, a small gamble, but more of a gamble than with a 6bolt. With any motor, you take a slight chance of crankwalk, as with anything else. The 6 bolt is probably in the any motor catagory.

You can check for crank walk by checking the in/out play (slop) in the crank. Pull on the crank pully. If it moves in and out, you're fub'd.

How to quickly tell a 6bolt and 7bolt engine apart.

His car is a 99, didn't they have a revised split thrust bearing? If so aren't those less likely to crankwalk as the 6 bolt motor

well i've heard DSMs are notorious for crankwalk...i was going to build my 6 bolt (when i get it) as my proformance engine and leave my 7 bolt in until i'm done building the 6 bolt...do 6 bolt have same motor mount setup as 7 bolt?

good to know - what would help? larger fuel pump and safc?
