Evo 8 ECU In 2g Works!!

It took me all of 2 hours to get my evo ecu swapped in, and it only took that long because I took pictures of EVERYTHING so I could eventually get around to a write up on the install.

Since then, I've spent hours tuning and messing with stuff, but I had the car setup and running in less than half an hour.

And tonight, I pulled a half throttle 0-60 mph run in about 5 sec. Once I get my WBo2 working again (bad sensor) I'll push it harder. That's 20psi running very conservative timing and 10.5:1 AFR up top. I hope I can get to the track soon with 25. :p It's feeling real good...

Oh, and I now have 3500+ miles on my evo ecu swap. I'll come close to 4.5k by the end of the month.

I just checked the Tephra Rom I used and it was the 5.10. I still haven't tried the 9055 though.

Any one have any thoughts to why it would run so lean and be knocking?

Try starting over with a clean ROM and a clean xml file. If you need one for the Tephra 9055 rom, send me a PM and I'll e-mail it to you. I think I have everything squared away for it.
 
I have all the photos and info to do the swap in to a 97/98/99 2g. I'm slowly working on putting it together for those interested. I just need school to start back up so I have time.

If someone would like to e-mail me any necessary spark plug/injector/cas/etc changes (photos are a plus) that need to be made to swap the evo ecu into a 95/96, I'll add that too with credit to you.
 
I would like to see a write up. I would be doing it for my 95. I have done a lot of looking and reading and am still not too familiar with it all. What do you guys think? Have any advice pm me please. Thanks.
 
I have a EVO 8(MN132874) ecu that I installed in my '97 TSI. I have the 1.3 Tactrix cable and EVOscan software. When I try to read from the ecu I get:

The EVOscan software will talk with the ecu fine. I am able to log and check DTCs. Anybody have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to ask this, thought people here may be knowledgeable about the Evo cars.

I'm going to be attempting to port the Evo5/6 ROMs over to the 98/99 DSM ECUs, because the Evos have a bunch of nice extra features like Boost Control, etc.

I'm Looking at the 1998 Evo5 RS and GSR and 1999 Evo6 RS and GSR.

What is the difference between the RS and GSR models?

Can a RalliArt image be flashed to a RS or GSR ECU?

Did the Evo 5/6 have the factory boost gauge? And did they come any extra hardware like a IC Spayer, ALS(AntiLag), Cyclone Manifold, etc?

i think the better place to ask would be on EVOM.... if i remember correctly the major difference in the RS/GSR models are in convenience and body trims..... power windows/mirrors, rims etc. etc. all EVO's had an intercooler sprayer of one sort or another either manual or computer controlled/manual, not sure if the 5's and 6's were computer controlled. not sure on the ALS but i am about 80% sure none of the EVO's had the cyclone manifolds, none of the ones i saw ever did any way.

we are assuming you added the flash connector and plugged it into the correct pin at the ecu. what cable are you using (tatrix or evoscan cable and how old)? what cable is showing connected to evoscan when you load the program( 1.3M, 1.3S, or 1.3U)?
 
Got it to work. I had the wrong wire on the white connector. Fixed it, read from the ecu and got a WHOLE bunch of stuff on the screen.

has anyone done a good cruise tune? like do you notice that at a cruise your timing doesnt really follow your hi ignition table? it ramps up ting maybe into the low mid 40's at steady low cruise ?
 
A thing to note here is that I unfortunately found out that my FPR solenoid used as an EBC can hold more than 30psi at least for a short bit. The car is okay but I was worried at first. I suspect that this can hold anything that we would reasonably want it to.
 
Yup, pegged the needle and it stayed there. I don't have the fuel or the head studs/gasket to run that though so I can't see what it would do over time. This was from me being really stupid and forgetting what I was doing. Put the base WGDC at 100% and turned off error correction. Completely silly thing to do but I was playing with dialing in direct boost control and just forgot to not be retarded.

Do you ever get the feeling that you are too dumb to realize that you're dumb and people just tell you you're smart because they feel bad for you? That was what today felt like while trying to track down my boost control issues. I had set BWGDC to uint16 and totally missed WGduty as an option. I thought my silly low boost was because of direct boost mods messing with stuff and entered 200 as my bwgdc then later realized my mistake and didn't change the units so that resulted in my 100%bwgdc. Interestingly in v7 if you change the 3d unit type for that table and then change the values it directly screws with the values in "boost desired engine load" in a very humorous way. Every other cell has a value and then a 0, looks like this:

It sounds crazy too.
 
Anyone experiencing a weird stuttering problem when they roll on the gas? As I spool up, it hits a spot where it goes lean. I have lean spool disabled.

It's weird, because the symptoms are just like the lean spool. It suddenly jumps from 11.5:1 up to 13.5:1.

If I just brake boost it, it's fine and pulls hard all the way to the redline.
