Engraving on a valve cover?

I was thinking of getting a spare valve cover to do some custom engraving with a dremel or something, I wouldn't go to deep just deep enough to get some paint in between the lines to help see the picture

thoughts? my only worry is cracks..

Our valve covers crack if you just look at them wrong. You could give it a shot, but I would be very careful with the depth of the engraving.

hahaha that's exactly what I was thinking, ill go to home depot and get a really small bit for the dremel and see what I can do

Would think that a set of cutters like ones used for wood carving would work better than a rotating bit. Aluminum is soft enough to cut by hand and can be damaged quickly if the bit gets away from you.

How did you get the lettering so even?

I was thinking like tats on the vc or something like a doodle. I can't draw that good but I could use a dremel. Have the local tattoo artist draw up some of your ideas and get it put on transfer paper then stick it on the vc and go to town.

You can go the easy way, clean it and take it to a trophy shop and have them engrave it.

This is a great idea. My father-in-law paid like 20-30 bucks for engraving on his mustang valve cover inlays at a trophy shop. It only took them a day to do but that could vary due to how busy the shop is.
