1G Engine Vibration. Balance Shaft Belt?

Hey I have a really bad engine vibration and I think (as well as the guys at Mitsu) that my balance shaft is out of time. the timing belt was done right before I bought the car, but I don't know if the BSB was done, or if it was timed correctly. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this? mitsu quoted me 6 hours labor and there is no way I'm paying $600+ to get this fixed. any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Just check yourself. Take off your pulleys and the timing cover. Take off the negative on the battery and rotate the crank with a 1/2" drive ratchet and see if everything lines up. You'll see the timing marks trust me. Please be aware that it may take up to 6 full rotations for them to line up.

Plus, if whoever did it last deleted the balance shafts, then you will not see the inner smaller balance shaft belt. You should see a plug in the front case where there used the be a gear that the BSB rotated on. Like I said vfaq will help you understand what I'm trying to say.

I don't believe it is the balance shaft. It is more likely the oil pump shaft not being in the right position. That is the shaft directly to the right of the crank pulley. In order to see if it is at the right position, you have to have the timing belt off and be able to turn the oil pump shaft to turn freely. On the back of the engine block right next to the starter bracket, you will see a bolt. Take that bolt out and you should be able to put a screw driver into that hole approx. 4-5 inches.

If the screwdriver does not go in that far, then you need to rotate the oil shaft by hand until the screwdriver will go in all the way. Then look at the timing marks on the oil shaft and it should be around the timing mark.

Now, put all your other timing marks in place, out the belt back on and tighten the belt and start the car.

You don't have to have all the other stuff in place to start it and see if the vibration is gone.
