There are alot of threads on these forums about engine rebuilds, a quick search will yeild you alot more results and info than this thread will.

Why do you think your engine needs a rebuild?

You should be able to hit that mark with the plans you had in mind for the 6bolt. And a 14b would do the job and give you better street use.:thumb:

My advice would be to make sure you truly need a rebuild before tearing your engine apart and getting into a project you'll likely never finish. Get a compression test and a leakdown test before you jump into things. If you have decent compression numbers and the valves are still standing their ground I'd wait to do any rebuild.

The stock 6 bolt block is capable of way more than 300whp before you need any internal upgrades.

Your stock 14b turbo should be enough to get you to your goal, but you will need to get: a boost controller, a boost gauge, a datalogger, some 550cc fuel injectors, a tuning device -I recommend an EPROM ECU and keydiver chip, you'll need to re-wire your fuel pump, and not necessary but 3" catback wouldn't hurt either.

ok well i know my engine needs to be rebuilt because it stalled out while driving i thought it was an electrical problem, took my starter out was gonna have that rebuilt, went to check all the teeth on my flywheel and found that i could not turn the entire flywheel around my pisont is not going all the way to the top of the clyinder so yea im pulling the engine under my dads advice so i thto i might as well make any upgrades now, and secondly everytime i try to search up tips on rebuild everyone says go to forged internals, and no one has prices and anything , one more thing if i use wg pistons in my 6bolt what machining/balancing or whatever will i need and how much might it cost.....thanks again guys.

Let me get this straight, it stalled out while you were driving so you thought your starter was bad and when you removed the starter, you tried to turn the engine over with your fingers on the flywheel?

You do realize, don't you, that the cylinders get pressurized (~140-180psi) when the engine turns and you have to fight that pressure to move it by hand. If the car runs at all, then the piston is going through the correct movement.

take it to a mechanic, thats the best thing you can do, dont be taking the car apart, and telling your parents you need a couple thousand dollars to rebuild an engine because you stalled out and took it apart, and if it doesnt crank, your starter is blown, so take a hammer and hit it, dont hit anything else like the tranny, your probally destroying everything in your engine bay for a starter and if its running, but it skips or misfires, then you either have a couple valves broken, or need a tune-up, like i said taking it to a mechanic would be ## best bet

NO it will not turn over i tried with the bottom pulley and with a rachet and it will not, and im not going to take it too a mechnaic and fork over thousands of dollars of my own money for them to fix ti when im goign to school to be a mechanic, secondly, my parnets arnt helping me monetarllayt with this at all my dad who knows a shit load bout mechanic as he is has been a millwright, mechanic befoer that and now a crane mechanic, who has built a shit laod of cars in his life that ive seen prove of will be helping me do this and etc, the engine will not get to tdc at all, we can hear it hitting sumthing, secondly how can there be compression when the spark plugs are out, ill put a picture of the spark plug i pulled out my my cylinder its demolised there is no tip left at all half way down the threads its gone, im not completely stupid im the top student in my auto classes, i jsut havent rebuilt an engine. and why would i let someone else touch my car when i can do this myself, the onyl thing ive ever elt someon else do was time my car when if rist got it,a dn ahd someone rebuild my tranny because my dad and i were too bsuy with hockey to do ti ourslefs so i took it out and drove it over to a local shop and had them keep me informed of the progress since them ive beuild other ones so if you dont have advice and prices on parts to recommend dont post. please im looking for tips on combos for my states goals, and things i should look for from people who know what to look for in thses engines, what od i need to do bout the balance shaft elmination.

one correction i skipped alot of my electircal screaching to find the problem we thought that was what it was so that why i removed it,

Okay, first off...
Since your thread asked a blatant newbie question, you mentioned that you were 17 and you were unable to use proper grammar and punctuation in your post; I may have mistakenly assumed that you had no clue what you are doing. If you had given us better information to begin with we could have skipped ahead past all of the posts above this one. I apologize if I offended you in any way. Let's start over fresh, mmkay?

I'm guessing your timing belt may have jumped and your pistons smacked some valves.

If you only will ever want 300whp, use stock replacement parts as they are cheaper and will be plenty strong for your goal. If you think you may want 400-650 whp someday, you can use just about any manufacturer's forged pistons and rods. Over that and you'll need to make sure the ones you pick can handle the extreme duty. I recommend Eagle H beam rods, JE or Wiseco pistons, Cometic or Mitsu MLS headgasket, ACL bearings and ARP studs. These aren't going to break the bank and are all well-proven parts.

The head will most likely need a complete rebuild, and I'd just put it back to stock. I don't think you need to worry about upgrades to the head unless you really think you want to consider some cams, or like previously mentioned, want more than 400whp.

The BSE is a pretty simple procedure and it's cheap insurance.

I agree! 100% with delta448 take his advice !

first sorry for flipping out like that, i jsut get treated like a complete idoit when im really not thats all, and secondly alright thanks man, i was thinking bout possibly some brian cower stage one cams, and , i know i need to follow the stage one and zero upgrades paths but they really are only guidline like so ok then stock rebuild well work for my goals, im pulling the engine tuesday with my dad because he used to old school cars os he hates the limit amount of room to work in so he said were pulling it out and etc, like i said ill ###### post a pic the spark plug i pulled out my engine, ok then what would be better an evo3 exhuast manifold or 2g manifold

I know i have horrible grammar its my weakest point.(english is sucky for me). I can talk really articulately but typing and puncation escape me. Thanks guys so much for all the help it has made a world of difference and stopped allot of arguing with my dad. Old school hot rodder thinks im crazy fro wanting to build a tiny i4 engine and that it was fast enough, which i agree it is more than fast enough for a 17's dd, but i want mroe i dont know why i cant explain it... but sorry fro rambling back tot he point i know i have bad grammar and ill try to rememeber to slow down and type a little better for ya's
