All threads with vague titles regarding engine bay noises are now merged HERE.

If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.

I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

when i accelerate it happens and when i let off it goes away immediatley. its not the exhaust cause ive checked that already and the possibilities that i think it would lean to more are drive shaft or clutch problem.

when you go to accel. and it starts to vibrate can you let off and it goes away? can you hit the gas down farther then where it is currently n quick and have the vibration also go away?[/QUOTE]

i havent accelerated farther than that cause i dont want to tear anything up. the vibration goes away as soon as i let off or put the clutch in

CLUTCH POSITIVELY other tech will confirm this a wise word to you, DONT DRIVE IT , i can post 4 vids right now showing you results of clutch explosin! the springs will shoot through your belt housing if it is a sprung clutch if not it could tear your tranny up ! I know this cause mine is in the garage due to clutch FAILURE , same symptoms

i would change the tranny fluid and filter i have seen this on few vehicles drop the pan clean the pan and the magnet thats in the pan real good put the magnet back in the same place it was before and pop the new filter in the tranny its maybe 50 bucks to do this and its suppose to be done roughly every 50k to 75k anyway so its not like it would be for nothing if it wasnt your problem because theres no way for sure to tell you because im not there but i would bet on the filter and fluid i just did a toyota truck about 3days ago that had the same problem,a lincoln mark viii "mercon v junk" about 2months back and so on good luck i would also swap out 1 of the quarts of new fluid for a quart of lucas tranny stab. it works wonders imo

Maybe a Universial Joint... Humming, Making noises and stops immediately after acceleration. That sounds like a universial joint

hey guys,

ive got this clicking noise coming from my intake manifold/ on top of it/ it sounds like its coming from right behind my dash display -- opened the hood and its clicking around that area,,

its def not lifters -- i know what that sounds like, LOL ive got a M3 that ticks like a time bomb on 5 and 6 if you jump on her

so any ideas guys?

knock sensor? just shooting in the dark

ok thats where it sounds like its coming from

what should i do, clean them? im not really planning on upgrading anytime soon, there the stock injectors, injector cleaner? or is the clicking a strick mis functioning of the injector itself and its time to get new ones?

:hellyeah:

450cc injectors make a clicking sound that actually means the injector is fireing basically doing what its supposed if you think you need a cleaning or think there not spraying evenly im right up your alley i have a injector flow tester and ultrasonic cleaner i have about 20 sets of 450cc injectors that are cleaned and rebuilt with new o rings and new internal filters let me know if you need a set !

There is a Solonoid on the firewall that clicks at idle off and on. The solonoid is on the right side of the brake fluid resevoir ( you standing in front of the car with the hood open looking at the firewall).

ok i know what your talking about,,, so do i replace it? and the clicking will go away??? is this thing effecting anything performance wise or gas mileage wise?

Dude. I had the same thing, guarentee you its the evaporitive emmissions purge valve. 5 bucks at the junk yard or 45 bucks new from satan. put your hand over the purge valve and you will feel it clicking.

and if you two are talking about the same thing then whats the point of this evap purge valve? just a pain in the rear worth deleting LOL?

thanks for the input guys:thumb:

if it a fast ticking and gets faster as you raise your idle then it is your injectors, if it a steady click then its the purge valve. if its the injectors, wouldn't worry about it, thats what they are suppose to do. that is just the valve opening to let the gas though.

ya its a steady tick,, really has nothing to do with the rpms so i guess that means purge valve,, do i just let it be and deal with the noise

its not really annoying me or anything ,, i just noticed it and it wasnt doing it before so i figured id say something

the clicking just means its working LOL jk. Personaly I say if its not throwing a P0443 CEL code then myself, I wouldn't worry about it too much, we'll just say it adds to the "sleeper" effect of these cars. I replaced the original one with one from satan about two months ago, and that one started clicking again already so it could be they like making noise.

And to answer you'r other questions, no its not effecting performance or mileage. These cars just like to make noise LOL
Kinda like that dashboard sticker I saw on ebay a while back. (DSM: sit down, shut up and don't ask what that noise is)

I never came back to this thread but I fold the problem, there were to loose nuts (can't remember what they were holding since I found it over a month ago) that were making the loud vibrating sound. I tightened those up and the noise went away, it was such a good day :)
