All threads with vague titles regarding engine bay noises are now merged HERE.

If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.

I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

im not certain but did you replace both axles correct.? check and make sure the axle to block bolts are nice and tight...

Ok I did replace both axles, but when I pulled my engine there wasn't a carrier bearing. I know this probably isn't good, but I've had my car five years and I assume its never been there. I never had an issue with it.

Now with this being said, I think the issue is the custom power steering lines I made. I used the stock lines after changing the bends and I crushed the hard line in a couple places without knowing. I think this was causing the pump to skip, making that awful noise. I pulled the lines out and ordered new hard line. Once the hard line comes in, I'll find out if I was right or if I need to keep looking:cry:

My 95 gs has been sitting in my garage for a few months, and I didn't drive in in those few months. I turned the car on and it was making a knocking noise. I was told that I should change the oil which I did. I changed the oil, let the car idle for about 10 minutes. The noise kind of went away, but two days later when I started the car up it was making the same knocking noise it was making before I changed the oil. Any idea? The engine check light isn't on either if that helps.

My car does the same thing after it's been sitting for a few days but once it warms up it goes away. I do not think it's knock because if it were it would not go away. Lifters? That is what my guess to it is but not 100 percent certain.

How many miles are on your engine? Drain half tha oil and add ATF and let tha engine idle for 5-10 minutes. After doing so, drain tha crankcase and add fresh oil of your choosing. tha ATF has detergents that will clean up deposits that have bult up. You could drive around tha block a few times to help wash out hard deposits, but I'd recommend against that on a higher mileage motor because there may be some deposits that are acting as seals to help prevent leaks. This is mainly for lifter ticks (which you may partially be obseving), but it'll help clean up your engine. Give it a try and report back.

it has over 200,000 on it, but it quit the knocking after I let it idle for 20-30 minutes. I don't know if it'll do it again tomorrow though. I'm wanting to take my car on a trip soon. Any ideas on how to make the engine more reliable before I take it? You think it needs a rebuild since it has so many miles?

I have the strange noise, not when the car is on. But only when the ignition is on. Not sure how to explain it , but sounds like it is coming from around the intake manifold?

ANY ideas?

if it is continuous get a ??? i forget the word I'm drunk :barf:right now those things you put in your ears doctors have.someone help with the word. And find were it is coming from

I have a 2g talon, got it about a week ago when i got the car it had 10 bent valves, timing belt, and balence shaft belt were screwed.
So i have a buddy who gave me a 1g head, intake manifold, and parts to make a 1g head on a 2g work.
I paid somebody to install the head and all components new head bolts, gaskets, and belts.
First time i drove the car (only drove it for 30mins) it had a weird knocking noise only above 4000rpm not at idle.
Once he was done i found out the balence shaft belt was out of alignment.
So me and a friend got it back in alignment and started the car up,
the car sounds like a diesel but if i give it throttle manualy it goes away at like 3000rpms and comes back at like 4000rpms.

When starting the car it has restiances turns slow acts like its locked up the jolts to start.
