when i first start the car, the engine idles high. it also has a kind of wineing noise, the guy i bought the car off of said it had something to do with the throttle body. i know nothing about working on cars, so im totally lost.

That would more than likely be your Idle Air control valve. located around your TB. It is probably stuck open allowing more air to pass through your intake at idle than what is needed. Find one at a junk yard and replace it. You can check it be removing it and turning the key on and off to see if the plunger moves up and down.

ok...like i said i know nothing...LOL, i feel stupid hey you gotta start somewhere right. so i need a "idle air control valve"? when i check it...how do i remove "it"?

your engine is suppose to idle higher than usual when it is cold, then it should drop below1k rpm when warmed up, how high is it idleing ? does it continue to idle high after warm up or does it fluctuate up and down ? we need a little more info.

ok...well it does drop after it warms up. but it still has that whiney noise, and i dont know exactly what rpm's ### my rpm gauge dont work. that is another question i have, the guy that owned the car before me took out the 1.8 and put a 2.0 in it. idk if he didnt hook up the gauge or what.

it will idle high on start up while its trying to warm up,if it drops when warm then no worries but if too high then check iac. as for the whining noise check for vacum leak,a slight leak or bad leak will cause hissing or "whining"

yea i would say idle air valve too because my 91 gst does the same thing, but if you dont know about working on cars, i would say find someone who could help you thats what im doing, or take it to a shop that knows what they're doing

He did what with what:confused::confused: If that's the case you do not have a GSX it's closer to a morphadite:toobad:

If you paid a GSX price for that thing you were taken to the cleaners. Take a look in the trunk and if the spare tire is down in a well it's 2wd if it's up into the trunk it might be 4wd.
