Alright, I am not even taking the time to search this because it is too late and I need to be able to sleep. LOL

I have a 1991 TSi AWD. I have a friend in Wisconsin that was willing to hook me up with one for free. He cannot find it and assumes it made it's way to a dump somwhere. SO, I plan on going to a junk-yard about an hour away from my place tomorrow. The problem is, I NEED to know what year 1gs harnesses will be compatable with a '91.

I would assume '91-94 but I am not going to trust myself on that, LOL.

ALSO, will 1.8L engine harnesses work? I know those were/are plentiful around MN.

If you guys could help me out, that would be great. Thank you!

If you want everything to be plug and play than you need a 91-94 turbo harness.

Thank you. If I am lucky, I will find a turbo model... My luck however, all I will find will be 1.8's...

Then again, I do plan on redoing the harness to 'tuck it. How much modification would a 1.8L harness need to work? Or even a 2.0L N/T.

The 2.0 n/t harness will work but you will need to add wires for the knock sensor, and one for the maf, and solder on the turbo maf plug.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the harnesses also differ between manuals and autos?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the harnesses also differ between manuals and autos?

If I am completely redoing them, will it exactly matter?

You can just remove all the extra wires for the transmission if you find an auto harness. It will work just fine.

I guess it doesn't matter anyways because all the damn salvage yards within an hour of my closed at noon. I woke up at 11:40AM so that did me SOOO much good.

I do have the chance of having a friend of mine in Wisconsin pull one at a junkyard. He said it is going to cost me $50 though. Is that a reasonable price? (Wow... That sounds like such a noob question).

Yes that is a very good price on a wire harness. I usually get 150+ for mine.

Adapting the auto harness is more than just removing extra wires. You need to rewire the Backup light switch, bypass the neutral safety switch, or re-wire the relay to match the manual one. You have to completely open the harness to do that.
