But would you paint a block fresh from the tank, high temp WHITE?

I ask, only because I happen to have two full cans sitting next to me not needed for anything. Don't hot tanks... take it all off baby, sorry, the paint that is? :barf:

... I know you don't have a chance like this every day! That said, I'm going to think this over for a bit. I have a week for the machine work to be done.

Is it high temp paint that withstands oil, grease, dirt etc? If it is, and you plan on cleaning it to make it look nice often, you could paint it white. If not, then go with black.

Would you put on a white suit to go work on the car?
It would sure make it easier to find leaks but I think you would hate it after a weeks or two.

White suit to work on my car? OMG :tease:

Here's my logic, if the dirt/oil/grease comes off when you spray the engine with water, why not white? If it stains, then yeah, I'd say go with black.

I have a white car. It's next to impossible to keep the engine bay clean and hard as I try it's not as white as it was the day it rolled off the lot.

Steve

I painted my entire Yamaha Banshee frame, hubs, swingarm and numerous other parts High Temp White, and I hate it.
I have to strip her down and have everything powder coated.
White will stain, don't do it, you may not get a chance to fix that mistake for a long time....
Paint it Black, and maybe even a silver to go along with the aluminum head.

Really really bad idea, white will turn yellow from heat and other grim and just looks like shit.

I disagree with you all, as long as you wash your car weekly and there are no leaks, and you have all your plastic guards in place, I think it would be fine. I power wash my engine bay every week and there is no dirt or grime anywhere. A little tlc every week doesn't hurt!:thumb:

But is your engine bay white!?

Like somone said would you were a nice white suit to work on your car no, same thing it will stain no matter what you do.

If the dip stick blows out, it will hit the paint and dis color it and after heat cyc the white will turn to a yellow ish color.

Ever seen under the hood of a white car? After awhile areas close to the engine will fad and turn crappy. the areas away from the motor will still stay nicer....

[QUOTEHow often do you wash your car if I may ask?[/QUOTE]

I manage a corporate 76 gas and car wash... you could say I wash it allot, when it runs. :coy:

For some reason I want a white engine, a little voice; "white white white"

Its been so long sense I drove the thing I completely forgot about that damn dip stick, its shot so much oil before, I pulled over thinking I blow the engine up.

Last summer I painted the oil pan a crinkle red. Its not symbolic to have a red engine block, is it? I don't want to jinx myself or anything, using Ford or Chevy colors. WTF

I'm thinking red, black, or silver.

I would get used to that schedule and expect a detail of the engine bay as well. I clean my car 2 or 3 times a week and my white engine bay always get dirty in a few trips. It is a never ending cycle that will get old quick.

now we are talking.

My car is white, and i have to wash it every week or it looks like it hasent had a wash in a looonnnng time. it gets dirty just driving down the street. so i cant imagin the engine bay if it is painted white, would need cleaning every week, or more... unless you wanted stains.

I can think of a lot of things I would rather do than detail my WHITE engine bay 2 times a week. Some of the shit you guys come up with......

Why not paint your valve cover white with the letters black, or polsih the letters. It would be alot easyer and more of a eye catcher than a ### white engine block.

It's a Mitsubishi. "No leaks", that's a good one.

You'll seal up a British twin, sooner.

It's one thing to have white wheels. But engines get awfully warm, and it's tough to keep the white from going yellow. Then things just look tired.

On the other side, it will cheer-up working in there, with better lighting.

I just fear the overall effect won't be very pleasing.

I intend to paint my bare block just back from the machine shop. I've started taping the gasket surfaces and was wondering if this is the most efficient way to work this.

Any one have a better idea?

What have you learned from your block painting experience?

wash the block with a scotch brite pad and some dawn detergent. Preferably while whereing gloves. There is still oil and grease on the block and it will cause the paint to fisheye and loock crappy over all. Then get to taping. Good luck. BTY what color are you painting it? Because you really cant see too much of the block when the motor is fully assembled.

See if there is anybody in your area that does soda blasting. It will remove almost anything and won't harm the finished surfaces. You would need to get the block hot tanked afterwards.

ok so i picked up another engne and its all put together. i want to clean it up and paint every thing. is there anything i could use to clean all the dirt grees and rust of the block ? with out having to take it to get it hot tanked ?

thanks for the help :thumb:
