Electrical issue

Ok so I have a 1995 eclipse gsx. Everytime I try to start the vehicle it acts as if the battery is dead. My ground wire from the firewall to the intake manifold melted. A wire underneath unidentified started on fire. My battery positive terminal also melted.. I have had this issue happen slowly. At first it wouldn't start and the one ground wire melted.. after a while it started gone and no wires melted.. now it rarely starts and when I am trying to crank the battery acts as if it's dead and then a wire starts smoking or my positive battery terminal melted. I stopped messing with it until I can get some help.

You have a short somewhere. You need to get a meter and start chasing wires

I'm going to do that tomorrow. I was looking to see if anyone had this problem to help me narrow down my search..

I would begin with starter wiring.

Check your large battery negative cable. It should go directly to the starter mounting case bolt (a second one goes to the firewall - don't have the battery negative go to the firewall and from there to the starter case). Remove and clean both ends, what they attach to, and make sure the cable isn't cracked, isn't too old (won't flex), and the end terminals are securely mounted to the cable as well as to the starter and battery. You may want to just buy a new one. If the resistance of that cable/connection is too high (> 0.05 ohms), the starter current will find someplace else that has less resistance (like firewall to intake manifold) and melt it.
