(EGR) Control Solenoid IN JAPANESE DSM

Dear all,

my car is imported from Japan and i really can not find any sign of EGR solenoid in my car ( its like it was never there) below is a picture of my friends car which is from Japan as well , i will take picture of mine soon and will post back ( there is no EGR solenoid at all) ????


the picture is from JDM 1996 GSt and mine as well is 96 gst


i am wondering if it really does not have EGR then what does it have instead? i am 100% sure that it was not taken off my car as i have seen 6 cars already without this EGR ( all from Japan)

JDM cars from the 90's don't have egr. I don't know about newer. 3000gt/GTO's don't have it either.

i dont think there is anything instead they just do not use egr.

It was likely removed at some point. There are no JDM DSM's; they were all built in Normal, IL USA for USDM and EDM, and all used the same engines. (EDM 2gNT's got a NT 4g63 opposed to the 420a, though.)

Never han one.Emission testing dont exist in japan,so there is no emissions related parts,in the caribbean all our cars come direct from japan,we have no emissions testing neither.At our shop if we replace an engine with a japanese one which we do often,we have to change the intake manifolds because of that.

No emissions testing in Japan = no ERG.

The cars may have been routed to Japan, but the cars did not originate from there.

It may not be required to have them in Japan, but there was never a Japanese market DSM made. All DSM's came from the factory with emissions equipment. If it is not there, it was either removed, or a JDM engine that didn't have an EGR was installed afterwards.

This is like disputing 2+2=4.

Hmmm, guess that's why we don't hear of people swapping their cars to "JDM-spec". So did the EDM DSMs have emissions equipment too?

Edit: Is the ERG blocked with a plate?

Nobody mentioned this possibility: My '93 2.0 NT has a functioning factory EGR, but no solenoid. If it were sold in California, it would have had a solenoid. The EGR doesn't require a solenoid, a solenoid just allows the computer to influence its operation.
