ecu tuning/ ecu flash help!

Hey everyone, I'm very new to this so here goes nothing. I have a 95 talon, bought it with a 16g and 540 injectors but it wasn't tuned. So I bought a 99 flashable ecu and tactrix 2.0 cable. I downloaded ecuflash and am borrowing a buddies evoscan software for logging. Now here is were my trouble starts. I hook up the op2 cable and and run ecuflash it see's the cable but won't read my ecu. I'm going to first ask for any and all links to help and I have already read ceddy's first flashed dsm but u can link it here for others. Sorry I'm such a noob and thanks

You also need the Mitsubishi reflash cable to read/write the ecu.

You can run evoscan with just op2

ok just so everyone know's i am goin to turn this thread into a write up for the uneducated like me so the more links that anyone can add that would be a wonderfull resource.... also any tips tricks or dont do's will be greatly apreaceated.

ok so reflash connector is in what i didnt understand is once my car is a 95 i dont have a spot to plug it in so refered to http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.html and hooked a 2.55mm headphone jack straight into the wiring harness can read now... YAY

ok so i got the reflash connector hooked it to pin #79....... ecuflash will now read it but will only let me save the rom cant write to it.... i found this link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...8-ecuflash-wont-write-98-ecu-help-please.html but no help i have checked the part # on the ecu its MD346675 from the first flash link this is a flashable ecu please help

If you can read from the ecu you should be able to flash too it. Seems like there's some sort of connectivity problem I'd say.

i get the same report as the guy did in the above link im goin to crack it open tomorrow and see if my numbers match up to his if so i got got.

Ok good news... numbers match up it should be flashable... After hours of reserch i have narrowed down the issue, i have to download the right rom definition got to get my buddy to look and see how exactly to do that but i will update tomorrow with the right one.

I highly doubt it's from your ecu not being flashable. Does the car even start/run with the ecu? Did you put all of the ceddy mod defs. into the correct files?

Alright downloaded ceddy Mods put it all where it was supposed to go still not working....

swapped laptops redownloaded ceddy Mods reads and flashes just fine.

Ok here is my next question... There is a Rom file that contains his Mods like, cel on knock. Is there anything I have to turn off before flashing this to my ecu?

Either send me a copy of your edited ROM or post it up here. You probably deleted some periphery bits you weren't supposed to. Hopefully you didn't brick the ecu.

Now did you actually pull the ecu, open it and check the CPU number on the board? If it doesnt read MH7202F you wont be able to flash it. If not Ceddy has a howto to open the ecu here: http://ceddy.us/h8-ecu-wiki/how-to-open-ecu/

Also what did you have to do to get the 99 ecu to run in your 95? I wasn't aware it was possible to have a 99 ecu run in a 95. The car runs good with the 99 ecu?

ya i have cracked it open already and checked the #s it is flashable acually i already dailed in bigger injectors 550cc but i was runing a liitle lean so i was gonna flash it back to stock figured might as well add ceddy's cel on knock and such....

Check for the the continuity of the flash pin and the power to the obd2 port. Very common for it to be loose and short. Or not make a good connection, mind you voltage drops during a flash process can and most likely will brick the ecu so watch out.

So you flashed the changes to dial in the injectors and it flashed great but then you tried to flash the CEL mods and such and got those errors you posted earlier in the thread?

ya im worried my pin was loose at the time of flash i checked it and it looked fine but its not exactly perfect..... i sent my rom to tyler hopfully he can let me know if its brcked or not....god i hope not this shit is to expencive to just be messing it up

The ROM won't really tell you if the ECU is bricked, just if the ROM is borkT or not.
