Ecu done for?

Hey guys Ive been having problems with my car so I decided to check my ecu and I found leaky caps I just want to know if its to late to replace them so I can buy an eprom.

You can replace the caps for hella cheap, caps are like $5 at the most for that ECU, I would try replacing the caps 1st and see if it works, if not, you only lost a few bucks, then go out and buy a eprom ecu..

You could try just replacing the caps but I personally don't think that will do it. Its not all that clear in the pic but it looks like the acid from the caps has shorted some of the traces out, so at min it looks like you will need some of the traces repaired and depending on what traces shorted out there may also be some components that have to be replaced. It would be best to have someone who is fermiliar with our ecu's to check it out and give you an estimate, such as Dave at dsmlink. Alot of the time its not worth it when you have to start replacing components, the components themselves usually aren't very expensive but the labour is. Its hard to say what all is shot until you start replacing things, & your bill can pretty quickley add up to $100+

Well you don't actually get shorts, but opens when the acid hits the copper traces. This is bad because this part of the ecu serves to provide voltage regulation. With open traces voltage spikes and ripples occur which destroy hard to replace things like the microprocessor. From that picture it looks like it got an open, something got spike and started to burn. I've repaired ECU's that have had opens and weren't left running too long.

Without regulation some parts get too much voltage and they overheat and start to burn as well.

It also appears that the acid has attacked the vertical board, IC110, pretty badly too, and it will have to be replaced. Off the top of my head I can't remember which exact solenoid or ISC outputs those rear legs are for, but somethings not working.
If its NOT an EPROM-type ECU, its probably borderline whether I'd fix it or not. Dave does great work, and I highly recommend him, but I think you'd have $70-$100 wrapped up in the repair.

Those are connected to the drive pins on the M5269L solenoid drivers. That IC110 will need replacing, the traces on it that are corroding are plated/deposited on the ceramic and not easily cleaned/repaired.

so just go ahead and buy a replacement ecu is basically what yall are saying.

anyone sell eprom ecu's on here? my car is a 92
