[RESOLVED] Found A EPROM Ecu, What can be done with it

ok so a while ago after i had got my 91 awd talon there was a box in the back seat and being after i swapped the engine after catastrophic failure from a seized wrist pin, the car has been parked for the winter and i decide to go through the box that was in the back i found a ecu MD166262 so i open it up and it has a socketed EPROM, ive never tuned a ecu with anything but the safc

my question is what does it do and can i use this to step it up from safc with out sending my untouched ecu in for socketing

You have to take the EPROM out and get a socket put in to do anything cool with it. You can plug it in your car and drive around just fine with the AFC without socketing it. If you were planning on doing that, you can sell it for 3x as much (or more) as a non-eprom unit and get something fun like a front mount.

You can do all sorts of things once you have the chip cut out and a socket put in. In my opinion, in order from least to most powerful is a pre-burnt chip from someone and fine tuned with the AFC, using tunerpro to edit the stock binary, ECMlink, and DSMap. I honestly wouldn't consider anything but DSMap until ECMlink comes out with speed density tuning, but that's not a view shared by everyone. ECMlink's new features make it very nice, but after having a taste of speed density, you'll crave it.

the ecu board has a socket soldered onto it already i pulled the chip off and was tryin to search if i could use somthing like ecmlink/dsmlink to use obd port for some sort of tunning but im clueless on that.

If its already socketed that means you can use dsmchip or ecmlink to tune.

Yeah DS-map is nice and user friendly. You can use tunerpro as well if you keep mass air. Youll want to get a zif socket to place the chip in and easily removable. Basically you can tune everything with the eprom. heres something for starters. Tunerpo and dsmap allow you to just punch in the numbers for injectors/airfuel/timinge/etc. Also check out the dsmecu yahoo forums

Yes, you most certainly can use ECMLink to tune. You've already got the EPROM ECU and it sounds like it's already socketed. Check the board condition for damage just to make sure. You can use our ECU repair page to get some idea of what to look for.
