General Ecu common error

On my way to the track today my check engine light came on. I had my laptop with me and check the DTC and nothing showed up. I plugged in the Datalogger and it read Ecu common error and also Serial Com Error i think it was. It comes on and off. As im driving it will come up for a minute or two and then start flickering and go off and then repeat later. I checked my ECU harness and everything seemed ok and checked the Datalogger Connector and that seemed ok as well. What else could be causing this to come on and off like that and not be reading through dsmlink?

Check to make sure your using the correct port on your laptop...This is regarding the dsmlink

I have 4 or 5 usb ports on my laptop. but only using one will allow me access to log onto dsmlink...Try plugging your usb cable into a different port on the computer...

there is only one port i am using which i used when i installed my driver too. It has worked for about a week until today when it started.
