Eclipse GSX vs Colbalt SS???

i will say there are ecotechs over 1000hp out there so they do compare to a 4g

The turbo ones are quick
But the supercharged ones are slow
I beat one with my 99 Grand am GT H.O. (bone stock and auto) from a roll
he had an angry face on after that LOL
but to make an all around decision i would go with the dsm anyday

Im prett sure the 4g63 is the best for speed? I dont see SS going 7's. I disagree

The red bull FWD cobalt runs 7.3 @ 199.

If we are talking stock vs. stock the ss probably owns. But you cant argue a modded dsm will "decimate all"

Stock to stock the SS wins.

The 4G63 is one of the best 4 cylinders, but if you're including V8s in that "decimate all" statement, we certainly don't decimate all.

How about a twincharged talon? LOL

May I have your address?

LOL... why is that?

All in all, the Domestic car manufacturers have really stepped up thier game. I think the little bankrupcy scare woke them up. All three have some pretty amazing cars. Who would've ever thought a base model Mustang or Camaro with a v6 would be pushing over 300HP? The Mustang geting over 30mpg with that engine! The new 5.0L engine is truly a force to be reckoned with. Chevy and Ford now offer several turbo options. The Cruise and Sonic both will get a turbo engine option. The Taurus and f150 are offered with a twin turbo v6. The 2012 Focus will recieve a turbo engine in the ST trim. Rumors have it about a possible turbo Mustang offering, too. On the Chrysler side, there's rumors of a Pentastar turbo 3.6L that will go in the Charger/Challenger.

Pretty exciting as a car enthieusiet though all those cars are too expensive for me. LOL But come 10 years form now.. ;)

As far a quality on the "economy" cars... go check out a 2012 Focus. The interior on those cars look and feel as if it belongs on something more upscale. This is defiantly a huge step in the right direction! Heck, from working at the shows, I've had hard-core BMW buyers tell me "you know, this (GMC Acadia) is the first American car I've ever considered over a BMW."

Ok sorry for the hi-jack.

Oh yeah.. the Ecotec engine has made some serious power. Look up the Cobalt that was used at the Salt flats.

All of this is true, and it's excellent.

I'm considering a 2011 Ford Fiesta as a grocery getter. With a manual it's 38mpg highway, 120hp, 2500lbs, and can be had well equipped (premium audio, appearance pkg, cruise control, and a few other options) for $16,500 MSRP.

I figure i'll save $1500/year on gas @ $4/gal. If i finance 10K for 3 years @ their offered 1.9%, the gas savings cover half of the $285/month car payment. Savings considered, it would be an extra $150/month for 3 years and then it's just money saved from that point forward.

I'd do an intake, tune and high flow cat, prob make 140hp which would be fine in a 2500lb beater.

It's probably been said often enough but:

High power potential: SS < GSX
Quickest spool off the line: GSX < SS
Best traction off the line: GSX (AWD) > SS
Best handling: GSX > SS
Best looking: GSX > SS
Coolest: GSX > SS
More aftermarkets: GSX > SS

I don't know, some of those are just my personal opinion, and I'm a DSMer so of course i'll be bias. Oh, and I also find Cobalts pretty ghey.

The Ecotec has made 1440hp. I'm not sure if the 4G can claim that title. As far as cost effective big power, it's all 4G.

Best handling: GSX > SS

Stock for stock i don't agree with that. The SS has stiffer suspension and more rubber. Besides, our AWDs have the same terrible weight distribution you get in a FWD.

Besides that, i agree.

I can agree with that.

I didn't research the SS quite enough to give a solid opinion on it. Thanks for the clarifications though, always happy to learn.

The cobalt is alright...till you get drivin it hard and the electronic power steering overheats and you lose power steering...and prior to that the ecu starts takin power away...

I have had an '04 SRT-4 stock everything except for an adjustable internal wastegate, an '06 Cobalt SS/SC stock everything except for intake, and '97 GSX with pretty much nothing stock. Although I haven't had a healthy GSX due to the condition I bought it in and lack of time to get it completely tuned, I can say that the Cobalt is WAY slower than I expected. I raced my friend with my SRT and him driving the Balt and vice versa. The SRT was running 16 PSI and beat the Balt from a dig and on a roll by at least 3 car lengths with the race ending around 80 MPH. I know that my GSX has a lot more power potential than my SRT had so I can only assume that it would leave the Balt like it was sitting still.

I haven't tracked my GSX yet, but when I took my 04 WRX to the track with my buddy's supercharged cobalt he pulled hard on me. Off the line I took it but the SS definately won. He ran a 14.2 that day stock. I had to get a turbo back and a COBB stage 2 tune to beat him again, but then he got a Haun full exaust, injectors, and a smaller pulley and he got me again. They take to mods great and they handle AMAZINGLY. He told me it had to do with the rear axel being live or solid (sorry, i dont understand what either means) I'd take the DSM any day over that plastic rattle trap

I would dissagree with that, a sports compact coming with heated seats, luxury steering wheel controlling the radio and stuff, and onstar and blue tooth in the turbo models. not crappy at all. The turbo models have alot more defects then the S/C models did. only thing I remember the s/c have as defect is are that the water pump dies, and you need to replace the timing chain tensioner bolt. while the turbo models have a page full list of things that go bad on them.

The Cobalt was actually considered the least desireable car in america a few years back. So yeah, it may have a luxury steering wheel and radio controls on the steering wheel, but it is still a cheap pile of crap.
