Eclipse GSX vs Colbalt SS???

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Read all 50 posts....i'd 100% choose a gsx over the ss. The stats for the ss written online are all impressive but from everyones experience and videos gsx owns. Sounds like a challenge though:)

what a dumb thread. Google cobalt specs..there's your performance answer. Otherwise this is a bickering match over personal opinion...sweet.

Well I own both. 1995 Eagle Talon TSi/AWD and a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS/Supercharged.

The talon has basic bolt on's and the cobalt is bone stock.

The cobalt in my opinion is faster and funner to drive. Just my opinion.

^ I too own one of each, but I have a 1gb Panda with bolt ons, and a 04 Ion Redline. The IRL feels faster stock, and that may have to do with the weight. The IRL went 14.2 bone stock at Beech Bend last summer, and since then I have went with a 2.9 pulley, 60# injectors, Snow Perf. meth injection, Bwoody solid motor/trans mounts, ZZP Heat Exchanger, Dual Interceptors, ZZP Catless DP, and a Magnaflow Catback.

I do have to say though the DSM is funner to drive, and sounds so much better than the IRL with full exhaust. The LSJ's just sound like poo unless you turbo them.

FWIW ZZP used to make a bolt on twin charged kit, but have scrapped it in favor of turbo only.

Ok guys heres the skinny, I am a core buyer, which means I deal with the buying and resale of just about any and every oem part you can think of. I have been doing this for eight years. I buy from dealerships, and sell to rebuilders. The cobalt is a great starter car, and the suspention is more advanced than the gsx, gst, etc.... But the motors are its weak spot, they make good power from the show room floor, but it woud take a lot more cash to make them as robust as the 4g63, I get them all the time with holes in the side from peaple trying to take them past there limits. That motor was also put in the saturns, when the local saturn dealerships closed they called me and I baught all they had which was three trailer loads of ecotec motors. They were underated, and never took off, and GM never really pushed them, because of all the problems. Who would win in a race stock for stock Im sure the cobalt, but after stock, you just cant get the same bang for your buck. As far as comparing it to an evo?...naw not hardly, sorry, these are the facts, not downing them.

Never have been a fan of the cavalier/cobalt family of cars. It's like the "get one for tunring 16 with good grades young girl" type of car.. I mean one of my friends had a black one after graduation and we had to tint the windows like a limo to not feel ashamed riding in it LOL

that being said. Last time i made it to the 1320 a few years back there was one running solid high 12's on nitto radials (i swear on my DSM's powerplant LOL )

thqat's respectable quick for driving there in sub-legal girlie fashion, having his girl wait on the stands and clicking of a 12.8 with the bas bumping

other than that one rare occasion.. F*&k that car, gimme a DSM 2g sexy ass car anyday! (i honestly can't see how some are getting so seriouse about the cobalt in this discussion.. one just plain says "high school graduation present/sweet-16.. the other says, yea there's a ton with nothing, but i drive one of the select few high powered, optioned out, fast looking as well as fast paced and never mistaken for a cavalier

LOL... why is that?

I think what he was trying to say is he's in love and looking to relocate LOL

I can't say much for the Cobalt SS, but I have an LS and I think they feel cheap and are junky. IMO, GM better step up their game on the quality of smaller cars if they want to compete with the other companies out there. The Cobalt is a good daily driver when it isn't busy making clunking sounds in the front end and falling apart. I just topped 70k miles on it and have already had to replace a good bit of the front suspension. IMO, a car that is only 5 years old shouldn't be falling apart so easily. My Talon is almost 15 years old and still has the stock suspension with no clunks, rattles or other problems. Still handles like a dream! Nothing has felt as solid or as good as my Talon so far...

The cobalt ss was built around a beefed up neon. GM kinda droped the ball on this one. I believe they should have started with a fresh platform.
