hey guys..i was wondering if i can get those ebay projectors and put the ebay hid kits in them...will they be ok fitmit for driving on the roads without blinding anyone...thanx

what happens if i dont do a retrofit for the projectors with the hids?

Because the Ebay projectors were poorly built then the light output will not be substantial neither will the cutoff. This is why most people do a retrofit. My cusin used TSX projectors on his retrofit and the cutoff and light output is amazing.

What boosted said... Imagine headlights when vehicles were first built... actually not even that nice... You know those cheap ass flashlights that you get for free for buying a pack of batteries or something... that when you turn on, it can't even light up the bulb inside of it for shit... thats what Ebay projectors look like. Even if you put HID's inside of them, which you can... It will just make the ####ed up beam patern a little more bright, and wont even work out for you. Which is why everyone does retrofits.

Clay recently installed his HID kit from SharpHID in his Ebay projectors and this is what the light output and distribution looked like. Just so you have an idea of what you should expect.

This is blackGSX2g's car with a proper retrofit. I believe he also used TSX projectors. Notice the light distribution, output, cutoff and projection; all perfect.

I second that answer. Cops try to find any little thing that'll give them a reason to pull you over. Don't draw more attention to yourself than you need, the fines really aren't worth it.:notgood:

Are TSX projectors best to use when fitment becomes an issue? Let's say someone were to find a BMW or Mercedes-Benz projector- would these be too long to fit within the headlamp housing versus the TSX?

I'm also trying to do this project.

Sorry for temporarily jacking the thread. :p

That question might be too technical for this forum. You might want to take a look at HID Retrofit Parts Projectors Ballasts D2S Bulbs and maybe ask there. It's another forum dedicated to HID information. You do have to create an account, but there is a lot of good stuff over there.

Thanks for the link. It's a pretty informative site.

Every projector has different optics. TSX lenses are crystal clear which gives a good amount of color, but I didn't like the bowl projector...it wasn't as wide as I like. I used the Lexus RX330 bowl as it projected a wider beam than the TSX bowl.

I took apart the projectors on my BMW to compare and the BMW lens wasn't as clear as the TSX, but the bowl was a bit wider. I was going to change them out for my good combo, until I figured out it would mess with the beam motors.

If you want to do a combo retrofit, make sure you put them together in a dark garage and play around with the placement of the bowl in relation to the lens to make sure you get the most out of your beam pattern without creating hot spots or blinding light above the cut-off.

I now have TSX projectors retrofitted into my Ebay headlight housing. I should have done the retrofit from the start instead of learning the hard way.

What if you put the HID in the inner light of the ebay headlights where its just a regular headlight would that work without modding the headlight housing.

I hope you don't mean the high beam lamp position.

That would be like driving with your brights on constantly.

but coulnt i re-wire it so the lights are switched.and i would be running low beams in the inner and high beams in the outer.
