Adjusting Ebay projectors

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Most have an up/down adjustment, and that's usually it. If not, then try using washers perhaps, if you know what I mean.

I bought ebay projectors and they are adjustable. There should be two screws in the back on each side of the bulb connector. I was able to adjust mine to a good height and direction. I think I used an allen key but can't remember. Might have been a regular screw driver. Take a good feel in the back and you should be able to find it assuming the ebay ones you got are similar.

Many of the aftermarket lights, like shown in the first 4 pictures below, arrive with one or both of the adjusters dis-lodged from the nylon swivel sockets inside the housing. Usually you can see this if you look inside the back covers. I have been able to pop the steel adjuster ball back into the nylon socket when it has happened to me. On one vehicle it popped out again so after popping it back in once more I placed some RTV silicone around the back side to help lock it in place. Don't do the RTV glue until the headlight is aligned because it will limit the adjustment range.

Light like this from ebay do not usually suffer from the same problem caused by rough shipping.

Mine are almost EXACTLY like the last picture you posted.

I'll have to look around for those screws.

The last picture is of the ones I have and I was able to adjust them. Took me a little while feeling around back there to find it. Think the screws might be recessed if I am remembering correctly right now.

So I'm supposing you were able to do it while your lights were still in your car.

Question though, What is the proper distance out to have your lights. To further clarify, how far should the cut off line be out to if you had your car in the dark on a flat road? 15 feet about right?

For the low beams, drive up to a brick wall in a flat parking lot and see where the cutoff is. As you back up, the cutoff shouldn't move up or down.
For the highs, you want them to similarly not rise nor fall as you back up. You will find slight adjustments make marked changes in how well the road's lit when you drive. Ideally, you want to test them on a neighborhood street with lots of trees so you can actually see where the light really is going.
Fogs should drop slightly as you back up (legal is usually 4" at 25 feet).
If you drive around to the front of the building and aim for your reflection in the windows, your low beams and fogs shouldn't blind nor glare you.
The high beams may set your retinas on fire.

I have the projector lights as well and there is definitely a screw on the back of each lightbulb housing that allows you to adjust for your height. it takes a pretty small screwdriver to get behind there but it can definitely be done. A little "stubby" screwdriver works the best. Also, do exactly what the guy above me said, drive up to a brick wall and adjust them that way so you know you're even. Good luck man :thumb::dsm:

Yeah definitely can do it with the lights in the car.

Can someone post pics of the cutoff provided by some of these

As they come stock, the last headlight in the list seems to have the best projectors of the bunch in my opinion. None are as bright as OEM stock halogen lamps unless you at least use some Silverstar bulbs.

Some people throw HID re-based bulbs in them and, although not recommended due to possible glare issues, it doen't work too bad. The quality of the reflector bowls and the lenses is not very good.

Sorry, I don't have beam pics of any of those as stock lamps. I only have pics of them after doing full HID projector conversion.
