Found this intercool and it looks pretty clean. I like the size of it and i've heard good things from ebay intercoolers, suprising right??

Does this look like a good buy for $350?

Also whats up with the huge pipe going across the front?

what about an ebay intercooler and buy a piping kit? or just go with a brand name whole kit?

Funny I have this same kit for my 1990 gsx but, paid under $200 shipped for it new on ebay as well.

I have to agree shorter routing would be nicer and not removing the crash bar. So i'll see if i end up short routing it. Just a shame the stock foglights look like they have to go.

Sure the piping is piping, but not all intercooler cores are even close to being the same.

The Buschur core on my AWD is only slightly taller than the Punishment Racing cores, yet my Buschur core has three more rows of fins and plates. Which one would transfer more airflow, and which one would cool better?

You can't beat the punishment kit for the money. The cxracing kit is basically the same and last I checked was barely cheaper. I would go with the PR kit just for the peace of mind, knowing you purchased it from a reliable vendor.

Intercoolers are not made of piping. And not all cores are remotely similar

My AWD had one of those piece-of-shit kits on it when I bought it. I threw most of the piping away and sold the core on eBay for $50 just to put it out of it's misery.

I can't believe someone would actually market a FMIC kit that routes the piping so half-assed. Maybe if it was $100 new, but $350? C'mon.

The Punishment kit is what you want for your 1G:

i know what i'm going for isn't practical and i proboly sound like a honda kid but is there really that huge of a difference between a PR intercooler and an ebay setup? My horse power goal with this car is low twelves

wasnt arguing with you, I was just stating that the 2 kits are exactly the same as there are some people that are commenting as if they are different, calling the cxracing kit the "ebay" kit when both are the same and both can be purchased on ebay, sorry didnt mean it to seem like an attack on you, not my intention

Cores are no where near the same. The cores efficiency is what makes it suitable for the application. This is explained very well in the book mentioned above "Maximum Boost". All in all this is more a cosmetic mod then a performance mod it seems. Don't think though that something is better than nothing. Get the PR kit it will SHOW and it will handle the performance you are looking for just my 2cents.

i've already stated that
but i want a tall intercooler for my 1g and i can't seem to find any
i know that both the PR and cxracing intercoolers would be more then sufficient for my setup i'm not doubting that

The only way to go with intercooler setups is custom. Get a nice intercooler with the correct diameter inlet/outlet, then figure out what diameter piping is going to be most efficient for your needs. Get a set of piping for cheap off ebay and fabricate it together. This way you can route it exactly how you want it, position your BOV exactly how you want it, and you can keep couplers to a minimum. You can smooth out welds and send it in for powder coating, or paint it yourself with a two stage paint. If you take your time and do a good job it should turn out as good or better than any expensive name brand setup. Just my opinion.

No, you are not going to find a huge intercooler kit for next to nothing. Like the above post said though, if you must have an oversized intercooler up front your best bet is to look on ebay. You will have to just look around and find something that you think you can fit and start measuring to see what will work. Then IF you get the right size to make it all fit you will have to piece together your piping. It's a PITA to piece one together and that's why the quality ones fetch a higher price. We all are telling you what WE would do, but it's YOUR choice now. 99% of us are going to tell you to go with the proven kit over the cosmetic ebay stuff hands down. Oh yeah.... And you are contradicting yourself when you say it is for cosmetic reasons, but yet you say you have a goal of low 12's. WTF Low twelves is no easy Sunday stroll and if you think you don't need/want a quality, reliable kit on there to help you reach that goal, I just think you are kidding yourself. Good luck with whatever route you choose and I hope you can find what you want while being able to reach your goal at the same time.

i'm not contradicting myself, i didn't know if the PR intercooler would be sufficent for my plans with my set up and i was unsure if i needed a bigger intercooler or if that would be enough

You'll be fine with the PR/CXRacing kit. I purchased the 4" core and 3" piping off Ebay for $257 shipped. My 93oct tuning logs pegging the speedometer in 89* weather show the kit works very well.

I actually have the XSPower FMIC on my 1ga...it was already installed when I bought the car. I absolutely HATE the piping going in front of the intercooler like that. What kind of idiot designed that? I'm in the process of making my own piping to discharge to the right and go around the radiator support.
